People scoffed at Bedini's CD Ultra Clarifier, saying it was snake oil, but I owned one, and it really did improve the sound a lot. Way more than any interconnect or speaker wires. Unfortunately, mine was damaged when I mixed up the power supply and fried it.

Look me up if you're into vinyl and familiar with the late Sleepy LaBeef. I have some LPs around here that were rarely played. He was my uncle. He knew Elvis Presley and gave me an unusual Elvis biography album just after Elvis died. It had a lifetime replacement guarantee for any reason, even scratched, broken, or just wore out.

My personal top, audiophile sound, spectacular music. It's useless to listen to music only for its quality. Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon Michael Jackson - Thriller Eric Clapton - The Lady in the Balcony: Live Daft Punk - Random Access Memories

I both agree and disagree with you. I’m all for the music or recording you are listening to should be good, and good is obviously very subjective. But listening to the music or specific sounds are also a way of enjoying it and the equipment. Take your list for example. I don’t like Tracy but the record is so damn nice recorded and her voice sounds so good that I could see myself listening to that once in a while. The same goes with Clapton. Not my thing but I can imagine the sound from the guitar and all the air in that venue… I think different ways of listening all have their place. When the music and the sound quality of the record both are 10 it’s audio bliss 😀

RCA Neon is a great label I got my copy of Spring s/t around 1992 for $150. Expensive at the time but dirt cheap now. Fantastic record. I also had a New Zealand pressing as well. Double gatefold, not triple.

@@eskeshuus5302 I'd be inclined to disagree. A repress if UK could still be the large swirl logo with no Big Bear credit. 50 spondoolies would be a bit of a steal in NM condition. Even with the small swirl logo its still a good price imo.

My best find was a first pressing of "The Quest" from Mal Waldron, VG+ to Near Mint for 40,00 Euros 🙂 You asked for bragging, so I add Eric Dolphy "Outward Bound", first press, 15,00 bucks, another steal from last week, ....and some other great stuff. I am so with you, when you can add something really nice to your collection, this is Christmas plus birthday at once.

@@SublimMedia I bought about 80 records from this flea market dealer and some other very high grade stuff was purchased. I mention this not because I want to show off, I mention this because there is still the possibility out there to find great records for a great price. I am from Salzburg/Austria, guess how big are the chances to find old Jazz records here? Most people would say, the chances are very low, but with patience and time, even here you can find great stuff.

If you collect CD’s in 2024, look up “Pre-emphasis” and “De-emphasis.” If you’ve backed up a large portion of your CDs over the years, get ready to do them again. CD’s released prior to 2000 are defective unless properly de-emphasized. There’s plenty to read on this topic.

My favourite cd from 2023? "Folkocracy" Rufus Wainwright. I was not surprised but a little disappointed when it was not honoured as Grammy Winner in the folk category. Joni Mitchell's live singalong from the Newport Folk Festival won on a wave of emotion. Instead Rufus' cd was my favourite for A&R choices, and perhaps more important was the pure beauty of voice and tasteful instrumentation. I cannot stop listening!

Another reason why CDs (especially old ones) need to be collected.... because all music including 60s/70s/80s are being "remastered" which means being PITCH CORRECTED. Horrendous. Search for Wings of Pegagus, his channel has lots of analysis and examples.

People should ONLY listen to artists they enjoy. When people talk about "audiophiles' albums" it's a testament to the fact that this is a hw hobby. They listen to it only when they want to show the system to someone. Enthusiasts, like rare vehicles enthusiasts, who takes care of each detail to perfection, but not for the pleasure to RIDE it (they only ride it to show it off), but because the love that machine as a piece of art. That's a hobby, and that's ok. But NO, most of the do not cara about MUSIC AT ALL, the play it like 10 minutes/month, and play albums that sound technically great in their system, NOT the SONGS they love. And that's ok too. It's not ok only when they are fooled by the market, believing the new useless expensive upgraded improved the sound. No, it did not. Not even if you had teen ears, let alone 40+ ears. Don't take it as religion, it's a mere hardware hobby!

I think there are different ways of listening to music. I’m not a fan of Steely Dan but I have Aja on cd and play it from time to time with the soul purpose of listening to my stereo and sounds that it can produce. The most important thing for me is the music obviously but I can understand people that listens to their stereo.
