I really enjoyed watching this. Do Union Pacific and BNSF share tracks over Cajon Pass? I saw locomotives from both railroads.
@brihntrainvideos2892 жыл бұрын
Yes. UP has trackage rights from West Riverside to Daggett, where it splits off to the Cima Sub towards Las Vegas and points beyond (i.e., the tracks between those two points are owned by BNSF, but UP can run over them). The UP also has its own route through Cajon Pass: The Palmdale Cutoff, which is part of the Mojave Subdivision.

engine?
@brihntrainvideos2892 жыл бұрын
BNSF 7576 was the lead engine. If you look at the top-right corner of the screens in the cab, the 4-digit number is the locomotive number.

Yep. It's kind of cool how they used what is likely the 685/684 set on 909/904, hence the reverse set with 865. Hard to believe some of the rolling stock is now decomissioned.

0:09 Yikes! That LTEX 18520 P2 horn sounds terrible.

Yeah, it did sound quite fouled for part of the first blast for the crossing.

On October 12, 2019 on the special excursion from Colton to Barstow pulled by Big Boy 4014 I was in the Sunshine Special car. Many people were waving greetings at people in the train. That was an enjoyable trip.

Even with the appropriate tripod, your video could still end up shaky. Cajon Pass is quite the windy area. I go through there a lot, and the wind is always blowing 20mph plus. If you look around near the summit, you'll see LOTS of windmills there for power generation. A lot of people up there have them for their homes.

It can also happen when a high-speed passenger train flies by you.
@antonbruce12413 жыл бұрын
@@brihntrainvideos289 Yea, but not that likely in Cajon Pass, unless the train is southbound. Northbound, they're climbing up the pass, and are not going to be fast at all. Southbound is all downhill in Cajon pass.

Speaking from my personal account here. Yes I did on a family vacation back in March 2017. However, the footage got corrupted 2 months later, so I now only have a few freeze frames and iPhone photos I took. I really miss that footage.
