Chasing the Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 from Colton to Daggett

On October 12, 2019, I carpooled with The Cali Railfan to chase the Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 from West Colton Yard to Daggett. Sadly, things didn't go as we planned mainly due to traffic and overcrowding but also because we figured out at Barstow that the train was going to wye west of Barstow, back into the station, drop off the passengers, then back all the way to Yermo (which is why the schedule said it would take an hour and a half for it to get from Barstow to Yermo. It was thirty minutes late backing in and lost a bit more time before finally making the reverse move. Despite this, it was still very fun to witness the world's largest steam locomotive running and next time it comes down, I will for sure chase it more than one day. Included are select photos I took at each location. Thanks for taking me Alex!

It was a great ride inside dome streamliner car "Columbine", the third dome in this consist. Worth every penny, lifetime memories!

On October 12, 2019 on the special excursion from Colton to Barstow pulled by Big Boy 4014 I was in the Sunshine Special car. Many people were waving greetings at people in the train. That was an enjoyable trip.

I was there at the same place, same day, and same time at Pepper Ave. in Colon. If you remember a short stout middle aged man wearing a red baseball hat, and black t-shirt with lettering on it standing next to, or near you, that was me. Watching the Big Boy pulling that extra long excursion train in person was really cool, and worth the bus trip over there..

i did some reading and all together there were 25 big boys and they all look like this train the 4014 they call them the four thousands they were the biggest in the world the only thing different is that it had another number. like 4002 4009 4013 and other numbers
