Method of finding bending moment(Mb) is wrong .when load acting on the center of the shaft bending moment will be WL/4

At the centre of Shaft, bending moment changes it's sign, I.e. it is a point of contraflexure where Bending moment is zero.

I think you did mistake in the calculation of the maximum torque my answer is 1375092N-mm Inner diameter=60.77mm Outer diameter=121.54mm

In step no. 4 socket diameter there is mistake. You multiplied π/4 with d1 square & gave + sign and in 9 multiplied by +d1 you gave minus sign. & 9 multiplied by -34 you gave + sign. Explain please

I have a question, with regards to the bending stress moment arms, how do you consider these if the fork thickness is much much larger. For a design im working with, the fork thickness a is 2x the eye diameter and hughely overestimates bending.

Watch this video...you need to change Thickness of fork a=2d and derive the equation for bending stress. In Video I have used a=0.25d

@@Y9096841236D thanks for your response. The part I am assessing is a 30mm long 2mm diameter pin connected between rod 8mm and lug of thickness 11mm each. As the pin is slender I believe it will deform so the contact area reduces prior to yield but unsure how to assess this

10^6 gives you answer of calculated Power in KWatt. If you want Power in Watt just divide by 10^3

Further why 10^3 also required? Ans: Mt (Torque) in above equation has unit N-mm. So to convert N-mm to N-m, we need to divide by 1000 (or 10^3)

But when a Shaft is subjected different Torque across the length, then we need to Calculate single value of Torque I.e. equivalent Torque by using Equivalent Torque equation. Now this single value of Equivalent Torque can be used to find Diameter

Ohh ...let me clear that... P(KW) = 2*Pi*N*Mt/60*10^6 Here, 1. N is in RPM and we want to use N in RPS, So we are dividing by 60. If youn put N in RPS no need to decide by 60. 2. Unit of Torque Mt is in N-mm, but we want Mt in N-m. So divided by 10^3 3. So if divide by 60*10^3 the answer of power will be in Watt but as we want answer in KW we are futher dividing by 10^3. Hence, In totality we are diving by 60*10^6

First thing Permissible Angle of Twist is not a parameter that we need to Calculate. Why? Because Permissible angle of twist indicates the value (Angle in degree or radian) within which twisting of shaft is allowed or permitted while transferring power. So Permissible Angle of Twist will be known to us or Can be taken from Design Data book and we can determine Shaft diameter which can keep twisting well below the Permissible Angle of Twist. Hope this is making sense

Something seems strange in this analysis. The stresses shouldn't be permanent on the location where the part goes through, should it? The stresses should be just under the piece on the "time" the regions are in contact, not on all the time.

That is considered as failure means component is not safe. What we can do, either increase the dimensions or alter the material having higher strength. In our case, we increase the dimension.
