I watched this about ten years ago and was totally inspired. I am now in my final stint at University studying classical voice after a four year degree! No, I'm not black, but love the sentiment behind everybody enjoying opera ❤

I was surprised. In the United States there has been a long history of magnificent black opera singers. I was surprised that In Britain this is unusual.

Black people did create opera and the classical music. We were the beginning of civilization. We created every type of music that exist, and to say that we did not would be remiss and a lie

Incredibly evocative and provocative .. this is resonating at so many levels. Not least the thought that i have just 'cut the legs off my chair' and am recreating how to be on earth! So much resonance .. 4 legs .... so many ways of cutting them off .... so many outcomes ... where are we going? Thank you

Music has no "color" for people who love music. Just listen and enjoy it that's what for it is :)

We know that music has no colour every country having more than one style of music. Its about adopting another country's certain style of music, i.e. opera for Caribbean people who had been slaves. How about the Innuit becoming expert at Socca music and competing with Trinidadians? Italians, French, Germans, etc. may think that opera genre is their turf. We already see white youngsters adopting certain dances from Africa, and I do not think this is very much appreciated by the adults.

I don't think that it why black people don't like opera..like anybody else we like what we know and what was played in our environment. We like gospel soul blues because that's what was played and lived for the majority of blacks.. that's like asking the question why don't blacks like string bean casserole..well because at our table we was serve chicken greens some type of pork etc. Familiarity....when I saw Aretha Franklin stand in for povorotti that right there let me know musically and vocally there is Nothing that we couldn't do..

I disagree with this, as it applies to a very small portion of the african diaspora. This is the american black experience, and does not speak for others. Personally, I grew up with and was trained in classical music as it was pushed in schools, via talent shows on tv and radio, and via several open national competitions and festivals. This was encouraged along with local musical genres. Once you were in a school you would have had to perform on stage for some district or national competition at some point. Or simply supporting your peers on tv or something. Unfortunately the influx of the american music influence counters that, and so exposure is not the problem, but rather one of interest.
