I just came across your videos which gave me hope. My 2 and a half year old daughter is having surgery right now due to her having Sickle Cells disease and found out that she has an enlarged spleen. I am so scared what is coming and to be honest I am not ready for that. Thanks a lot for your videos, they are helping me not to cry and worry while waiting for her to come out of surgery.

Yes, I had a third child after my spleen removal. About 2 years later. I did have many complications, but none directly linked to my spleen being removed. I did have abnormally high platelets my entire pregnancy, they said it was due to my lack of spleen. Delivered him at 31 weeks, he’s a healthy happy 7 year old now.

Thanks for your video... I had an open Splenectomy due to a severely enlarged spleen. I'm currently waiting for the pathology report to see if it is some type of lymphoma that was causing that inflammation. I completely understand about the feeling you have of your organs moving around. my spleen was literally the size of a football when it's only supposed to be the size of your fist so I have a lot of extra room in my abdominal cavity and every time I try to lay down and roll over to either side I literally can feel everything adjusting... All kinds of sounds and feelings that are quite freaky. I can't wait until I'm a few more weeks into the recovery because this is much worse than I thought I would be.

Hello!! I wish I had seen your videos when you put them out. I could have given you tons of information. I'm not sure if they told you or if you did it, but once your spleen is removed your immune system is compromised, so you need to get the pneumonia shot. I believe it is every 4 or 5 years. My spleen was removed due to spherocytosis. That is where your red blood cells are round instead of oval and they get destroyed trying to go into the spleen. I was lucky that I had my tonsils out when I was a child but I always got colds, fevers, sore throat, etc. Once my spleen was removed and I got the shot, I didn't get even a cold for the first 4 years. It happens every time I get the shot. As far as eating foods, you can eat whatever you want, as long as your blood work is fine. If anything eating certain things which help in gaining red blood cells may be important. I also have a pacemaker that runs my stomach and I also had my gallbladder removed. Both were done open procedure. There really isn't much to it once the spleen is removed. Just eat good. I would get the tonsils removed. You will be happier in the long run. If you are still experiencing other issues, it probably doesn't have to do with the removal of the spleen. DO NOT GET A FLU SHOT. All you need is the pneumonia shot, very important to have when the spleen is removed. No other vaccines are needed. If you keep keeping sick, you may have other issues. I had stomach issues for 5 years and went through 9 doctors before they figured out there was something wrong. So, if you feel a certain way that isn't normal, go see a doctor. If you don't like or believe their answer, go to someone else. Doctors, I found out only know certain things when it comes down to it. Unless they are a specialist. Trust yourself before trusting a doctor with a diagnosis. Always get as many opinions as you need, to make sure you get the right answer. It's not easy, but it's worth it in the end. The funny thing is, I tarted going to doctors with a stomach issue and ended up having gallbladder removal, spleen removal, brain surgery, which was all found when looking my a stomach problem. After 9 gastro doctors and 5 years, they determined my stomach wasn't working. Good luck with your health and I hope everything goes well for you. Most of those shots aren't good for you, especially now since you have a low immune system without a spleen.

@Jlk6532

I redo my vaccines every 5-10 years depending on the vaccine. I did get pneumonia (during the 5 year window of the first vaccine) and ended up in the hospital very quickly and took weeks to resume normal activity after finishing the course of IV meds etc. I just redid my HIB and got the pneumovax 23 shot. I get a flu shot every year, but every body and every doctor is different. I mostly see my specialist because I have other issues to control. I never did get my tonsils out but boy did I want to the first year! It was horrible! Other than high platelet count my lbs are pretty stable 5 1/2 years later.

@Jlk6532
@Jlk6532 6 жыл бұрын
J. Martino that’s a great question. Any problems I’ve had medically related to my spleen really have to do will how my body handles the routine illnesses I’m exposed to mostly from my three kids. I tend to get more sick with the same visit than the rest of the family (more severe symptoms that persist longer) and stay sick a little longer than anyone else. The first year throat infections were a big issue but no so much after that first year. I had very high platelet counts in my last pregnancy but nothing that worries my docs. It would just get flagged on all my blood work. Nothing else comes to mind. I work really hard at taking care of myself and have a few other health issues that are unrelated. All in pretty lucky all things considered.

Good video. I was actually researching "dog spleen removal" because I'm anticipating one in my job as a vet. Nevertheless I can add something to this: REDUCE STRESS. Looking for the answer to your immune system problems can easily take over your life. Remember to breathe, smell the flowers, meditate, get colour in the dead of winter (if you live in a cold climate), pamper yourself with things that you love etc etc. That's all. Thanks for the vid.

Hi! Jackson, i hope you feel better. My wife has the same condition as you "hereditary spherocytosis" then this causes that his platelets goes down, so down, 11,000 to 30,000 units, and in some cases suffer anemic, the hematologist says that the splenectomy is the best option for his health, so, we are a little nervous about that. how do you feel? how is your blood?

Francisco Dubon I saw a hematologist, rheumatologist and an oncologist to do several months of testing when my splenic artery aneurysms were found and all my tests were normal. After having my spleen removed I routinely have high platelets in all my blood draws, but nothing that can hurt me. My biggest issues since removal almost 4 years ago are with my immune system. I get sick more, stay sick longer, and have trouble battling small infections without antibiotics

Francisco Dubon some physicians do put patients on antibiotics for months afterwards. I think that is more common for children to do that. I did not do long-term antibiotics but I did update all my vaccines two weeks prior to surgery and re-do them every 5 years. I also get a flu shot every year. I did get the flu last year even with the vaccine and I was very ill compared to my husband and kids hat got it. But I survived it!
