The 986 was a mass produced car, a Porsche first. BUT it is a pure Porsche. It is a homage to the 550 Spyder. It is a mid engine roadster built by Porsche. Nothing is better than that. As for the base engine, it is designed to be docile at low revs then savage above 4K rpms.Mine is a daily drive because anything else I get into is SH*T.
@lastrasp16 күн бұрын
All very good points. In spite of this particular car's obvious maintenance needs I still loved driving it.

Where could I bring my Porsche Boxter to have convertible top troubleshooted, the tops mechanically won’t do anything ! Like it not getting power
@lastraspАй бұрын
Depends where you're located. I'd find a reputable, independent Porsche shop and take it to them. You could also take it directly to your local Porsche dealer.

The used car pricing on them just doesn't make sense - I'm in Australia. Had a 997.2 C2S, which I regret parting with, but circumstances were what they were at the time. I would like another, but pricing on all 911s here now is nuts. I did pick up a 981 Boxster S to scratch that flat six itch.

Couldn’t agree more. Things are slowly calming down but when I look at the prices of 997’s three years ago they made sense.

best car I have ever owned. 991.1 bullet proof engine more than enough gadgets you could ever need. fast yet not dangerous… unlike the turbos.
@lastrasp3 ай бұрын
Hard to argue with any of those points! Also think the NA aspect of the 991.1 - while lacking the torque of the turbos - makes for such a great driving experience and rewards pushing the car high into the rev range with both power and aural rewards!

I’ve owned many Porsches over the years. Air cooled, GT3, 911 Turbos, a 986 Boxster, a 986 Boxster S, a 981 Boxster Spyder. I’m a track guy, having worked my way up to tracking GT3 Cup cars. I say all that to say this. My favorite car for street use is a tossup between those two 986 Boxsters. With a proper suspension, they approach my Cup car in terms of cornering prowess. The 986 is absolutely the best sports car ever! On mountain roads these cars are unbelievably fun and confidence inspiring.

Wondering what is a must have options in your mind? I just got a 991.1 base recently with sport chrono, 19’ wheel. Thinking to retrofit sport exhaust. Do you have PASM is needed for a daily drive? Coming from Benz CLA180 I felt the drive was a bit too firm
@lastrasp3 ай бұрын
PASM can work fine in a daily for sure. It really depends what you’re going to use it for. For me it was sports exhaust, PASM and the Sport Design steering wheel.

Great video and review Andy.. The quality of filming, editing and commenting is immaculate and puts many high profile tv productions to shame, car related or not.. I am currently procuring suspension for my '92 Porsche with the similar performance goals as you, and I know you've had Bilsteins and now KW V3, but have you ever considered TracTive electronic suspension? I have only heard very positive reviews and it really takes suspension to the next level with on-the-fly adjustments.
@lastrasp4 ай бұрын
Alex thanks so much for the super positive comment. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I haven't personally considered the TracTive option but - like you - I've heard super positive reviews. The most prevalent being of Ian Harris' 964. Both Sid North and Lee from 9 Werks have featured that car and both been super impressed with the suspension and it's adjustability. Truthfully, it's rare I think my suspension needs any more or any less compression or rebound damping. I was tracking it, then I'd be adjusting it more but it's in a happy place these days. Set and forget!

What programing was required for the paddle shifters?
@lastrasp5 ай бұрын
Sorry Jeffrey, I don't know. I do know that there is a cable that runs from the shifter mechanism into the dash so i would assume that replaces whatever was wired in via the original wheel/shifters. My understanding is it was available as part of the paddle shift kit.

Bought a 1997 Q3 (MY1998) 2.5 with the trend package in Ocean Jade Metallic with some 99k miles on it in 2 years ago. Got it fairly cheap (10k), but spent another 10k fixing it up. Love the exhaust note and stability. Definitively a bit more costly to maintain than Miatas, but also a bit more thrilling.

Have owned a 83 944, a 911 Carrera 3.0 that was sorted and a 90 944 s2. The 911 was a thrill to drive but I would get out sweating from the concentration that I took to really drive it hard. The S2 is the opposite and actually very capable of getting the juices flowing. I would take the S2 and have because it is enjoyable to drive. By the way, best video I have seen on the 944. Actually seat of the pants review rather than reciting run of the mill history and boring stats.

Can you say bit more about C4 short shift.
@lastrasp6 ай бұрын
it's available directly from Sleepers Speed shop. I chose theirs as there is no modification required to the under tray of the car (which is needed with some C4 short shift kits). Definitely creates a notchy, mechanical feel to the shift.
