Excellent Job of teaching as you covered everything clearly. I bought my 76 Corvette 15 years ago and did a frame off and 70 percent new parts. When i reinstalled these spindles back then I did not go through this process. I am 73 now and nearing finish with the car. When I took it for a drive I could hear a noise that sounded like a u joint binding up, but they were all OK. Up on the lift we moved the left right tire, top and bottom in and out and found it had more slack than needed. or expected The noise was only heard as the car moved along about 1 or 2 miles an hour like pulling into the garage. I believe this is our problem and I received my new complete Kit on Amazon with tools and bearings yesterday. I may report my findings here after I complete the installation and gauging as you have shown so again thanks for a great teaching video. God Bless 👍

Sir, the spacer that comes with the kit- is it used just for setting up and measuring purposes or is it also installed during final assembly to go into the vehicle? Or do you use the vehicle's original spacer?
@sstocker31 Жыл бұрын
It is used in final assembly instead of a crush sleeve

Sir, I really appreciate your video! It is excellent and very informative. It cleared up a lot of mysteries for me. Thank you! Was wondering if you could tell me where you got your spindle setup tool and where I could get those selective spacers?

I got the tool from Willcox, but I think they are no longer around. I did find one at Corvette Central in the tool section on the last page....it was about $88. The shims I got at Tom's Differentials, you can see it in the catalog on pg16.

I thank you for your helpful information! I can't seem to find a current Tom's catalog. Would you by chance still have the part number for that spacer kit?

I have a 2008 Chevy Impala and my steering knuckle broke . I noticed u call it a shaft. Is that another name for it?
@sstocker313 жыл бұрын
Your mechanic is probably referring to the steering u-joint when he says "knuckle". So my guess is he's likely referring to the same general part.

My 09 has the angle sensor on the steering column where the u-joint on the shaft attaches to which I don’t see on your car. I couldn’t get the shaft off without prying against that sensor and possibly breaking it, and the clutch pedal makes space even more tight. Anyone have any tips?

I've been using the RainX Latitudes. They were only about $16 each at Walmart but if I recall correctly they were double that at all of the auto parts store chains.

A little note of caution ---- if after removing the blade assembly - the arm can pop down on the windshield with enough spring force to break it. I saw this happen outside an auto parts store. He wasn't a happy camper!

My 07 Pontiac G5 sometimes has a rattle within the passenger door so, When I was at a junk yard, (I was in a rush because they were closing) I saw a cobalt or G5 door that was disassembled & I saw this white colored piece of styrofoam & I think it goes on the passenger door but, I cannot remember if it was a 4 door cobalt or a 2 door g5? I was hoping this styrofoam would tighten up this door & stop any rattle but, I do not see where it is suppose to go? Was hoping to see it in a video? Its 2-4 inches thick & about a foot long so, a strip.

Hi, I am working to install new rear bearings on my 76 C3. I did everything on my mock spindle as described to spec. My end play was 0.006 on both sides without grease on the mock spindle. When I greased the bearings, installed the permanent spindles and torqued everything down to 100ft lbs, the spindle rotation seems very tight and my endplay is nothing. Does this sound correct? Thanks.
@sstocker313 жыл бұрын
No that doesn't seem right to me. If it's tight I would not run it. I'd take it apart and start from the beginning if I was doing it
@joegoodwin31573 жыл бұрын
@@sstocker31 Ok, so the end play I get with the dummy shaft should be no different than the end play I get with the the permanent shaft torqued down and installed using the same shims and spacers, correct?
@sstocker313 жыл бұрын
@@joegoodwin3157 yes it should be very close to what you did the set up with...maybe a thou or two different
@mshawnmhulett3 жыл бұрын
This will be correct because it will loosen up when the tires rotate it a little, also grease is going to take up space but will spread out with use. Yeah your still good.
