We took ours to the GMC dealer to have it pulled off and we were going to install the new one. They could not break it loose with their puller and suggested we replace the motor to solve the problem. I watched this video before all that and decided to cut it like you had to in this video. worked like a charm thanks for sharing this.

Thanks for the help! I had the same problem with our 2008 GMC Acadia. I cut through mine using a hacksaw. Only took a minute. I didn't saw all the way through, just about 3/4 of the way. I then used a flat screwdriver, sticking it into the cut and twisting. The bushing broke right in two! Thanks again!

Thanks for the video I was out there trying to pull on that mechanism after I got bolt off not knowing I had to have yet another weird tool to pull it off. So ordered that on amazon for 7 bucks. But I did get the placement arm and wiper for 14 dollars on amazon so happy about that. Just wanted to say thank you the video helped get me back on track. Kudos

7 out 10 wiper bezels behave this way and require cutting, due to dissimilar metals being used between the bezel and motor shaft. We call this cathodic fusion. I believe the mfrs do this on purpose, but that is just me. Excellent video!

Great video! For the past week I have been trying to get it off my X5 but had no luck with anything. The hacksaw with screwdriver and hammer is the way to go. Saved me $80 and didn’t damage the paint or anything.

FYI, the wipper comes with 4 basic parts, Spindle base, wiper arm, spring and cover. I left the old base spindle on truck and took apart the new wiper blade arm and spring from spindle base and just attached the new wiper arm and spring to the old spindle base and attached the hose and put new cover back over the assembly.

Did yours break in the car wash too ?

The puller he is showing works at least on my Explorer. Trick....slowly tighten and hold the puller with the other hand. As soon as you hear the pop be ready to grab the puller otherwise it will drop and at minimum scratch the paint. The bushing shouldn’t have seized but is possible. I hope you checked to make sure the new arm came with a new bushing before cutting the old one. A $10-$2 puller from Amazon would have made this video about 3 minutes. The over center spring is for being able to swing the arm out to replace blade but still keep tension on the arm to keep flat against the windshield during the sweeping movement. I am guessing that the OEM arm had the block and was discovered by some of the after market world as a lesson on how NOT to design the arm.

I should add that I used copper cote before I installed the new arm. This should keep it from freezing up if I have to pull it back off later.

I had to the same exact thing to my Vauxhall Meriva. I sure hope that the manufacturer ears are burning, I had to a lot of verbal suppression while working on it.

Lolololol. You do know you don’t have to take the arm off, or bend the arm back much at all. Just pull away from the glass about an inch, reach your finger up in the middle in side the blade to release it, slide blade towards the inside and it comes right off. Lol. You can change the blade in about 30 secs.
