Someone who lives near me used this kind of thing on his gravel driveway. What ended up happening is, over a few months, the smaller stones went to the bottom of the grids and started almost pushing the plastic back up, then it got broken into little pieces from cars constantly driving over it. So the driveway was ugly, had little bits of broken plastic everywhere and the grid system became extremely visible. It looked awful. Only took a couple of months for that to happen too.

Unnecessarily expensive due to its complexity. I'm not sure who this is marketed to, but I have a difficult time seeing a do-it-yourselfer using something like this and certainly don't see a pro using it.

Builds the same size wood deck over the same size concrete deck. Seems like a big waste of money, and a piss-poor demonstration of how those tough blocks are better to use.
@dankcoyote23 сағат бұрын
You make nice corners and then don't align the plug holes? Takes an extra 10secs with a square and sharpie(on composite not wood) You can also make your own plugs instead of spending $500 on matching plugs. I take cut offs and run them through the drill press. I still charge the clients for plugs, but instead of paying some company for the labor, the labor goes to me. I guarantee you're faster at laying composite than I am, I only build one or two composite decks a year. I usually push hardwoods not composites but if someone really wants one I'll do it. Anyway, just a couple thoughts of things you could add to the tips and tricks. Thanks for the video.

Because the driveway downslopes to the house, should you not have installed a couple of drains? Not sure where to drain to, but I'd be worried about water pooling.

So I ordered the plans a while ago. I would use the imperal measurements. I just need to know which plans go with which totes. One size is for Home Depot Totes the other is other totes from Lowes/Costco/etc. So are the ones with a width of 94 1/2, 20 3/4 and then 17 3/4 for the Home Depot totes? I doesn't specify on the plans which is which. I want to use the bigger totes.
@rclewis01Күн бұрын
that isn't that low profile. I have 3 inches to the door threshold...that is low profile. I have to use 2x2 boards, pressure treated just to make that work. And the boards will be laying directly on the concrete. Water never pools on the deck and is mostly covered, so it should be fine. Mine also won't be screwed into the pavement, because it is boxed in on 3 sides and weighs 500 lbs...so not moving anywhere and I don't have to put a bunch of holes in my concrete.

Great idea, but Trace was kinda wrong, lol. You could have saved money by building a second one, and adding it to the first with hinges, and a handle and latch. Opens like a door, but uses a smaller footprint. Or split the 2nd in half, and open like double doors reducing the radial footprint. Also, it won't seem as huge. Edit: That said, it's a great storage idea, because it uses the depth of your space that you already lost, wisely, especially if you can control it when it moves, that's awesome! I want to build one, but feel I may get carried away picking up more stuff I don't absolutely need.
