I was harassed MERCILESSLY in Luxor Egypt. 4 days of hell! I am certain they teach scamming in their public schools because everyone does it. From the children at the temples selling trinkets, being locked in the stores pressured to buy art, to the women in the restroom asking me for a tip for handing me paper towels. UGH! And that was just the first two days! The phone rang in my hotel room ALL night! Who gave people my room number? I will never know. We hid in our hotel room afraid to come out for the rest of the days there. Even the taxis fought over who would take us back to the airport. Pure Hell. I will never return, not worth the headache!

I can't imagine there safety standards compared to ours.

Absolutely NOT safe, its going to be 6am, Luxor hospital is dreadful and anything past a broken ankle and you are in for a flight to Cairo then medivac to your own country. we were in Luxor last week in a blistering relentless 40 degrees C, the taxi drivers/touts are relentless and agressive. The place is Egypt's shame.

Thank you for showing your non-tourist experiences in Luxor. It was refreshing to see this point of view. I understand the hassles and the incessant pleas for business but I suppose that's really how many of the locals make a living so it's hard to blame them. My wife and I are planning to trip to Morocco this fall and I expect much of the same there.

Biggest mistake you've made is renting an apartment, if you gonna go hurghada you book a hotel with full board or a resort then its a different vacation.

We stayed in Luxor for a full week (on the west bank) and it was definitely intense! But super fun too! lol
