One thing I notice about these fencers is that they seem to be wearing leather shoes which slip and slide ever so slightly on the floor. I imagine that if modern sport fencers we're forced to train without rubber-soled shoes, they would end up fighting exactly like this.

This is a fight. An elegant fight but a fight. They seem to be fencing/training/sparring as if the weapons were sharp. With sharps, a duel, a mistake, over extension, loss of balance, missed parry etc. could be fatal, unlike "sport" fencing. The tempo, the care, the thought will naturally be slower. One doesn't throw one's body at the opponent hoping for a conclusive hit as you won't get another chance if you miss. Every once and a while my coach would pull out a sharp small sword as a reminder, "attack" he'd say .. seeing that sharp point in guard really focuses the mind. I love how the fencers here continue the fight after a failed attack as they should when in earnest.

An amazing and a truly inspiring job, comrades. Thank you very much, I am going to improve on my techniques and am hoping to reach at least somewhere near your level, with enough dilligence, indeed. Thank you very much again.

Nice Vid showing skill but it is sped up. You can see it was filmed slower. Might account for the soundtrack over it. (Their Hutton sabre is very clearly also sped up) Very beautiful type of fencing nonetheless.
@user-ks7nb2jd6k4 жыл бұрын
Hi. Fencing at Hutton swords was really speed up a little due to the music. I'm one of the fencers. 😉 But this assaut is going on the real speed as it was.
I love the music in all your fight videos as much as the fighting...my favorite is La canne and Small sword (im actually trying to codify my own book based off these 2 weapons and theyre still viable options in todays self defence, I just use and teach different and every objects like sticks and umbrellas but the training does still apply! Anyways enough of my blabbering, bravo, Im glad you guys made videos and your music choice is great

Это очень круто! Дестреза в свое время произвела настоящую революцию в понимании фехтования и боя с холодным оружием. Отбросив строгие формы, оставив содержание, так сказать "снятие с удержанием", создали невероятный инструмент умерщвления себе подобных.

Thank you for sharing this clip! Could you let me know how can I get some text written by Luis Pacheco? I'm really curious about how much differences there was between Thibault's style and Pacheco's one. I've already get and read Thibault's translated manual and some part of Pacheco's text translated by Tim Rivera. But it makes me more curious about their differences....

@@louisjolliet3369 I don't think you fence, they might not be using their feet as much as sport fencer, but these actions are very quick. This is fine fencing to aspire to and not at all slow.
@louisjolliet33693 жыл бұрын
@@christopherbartlett8100 Interesting because I do fence sport épée and based on your comment I seriously question if you fence as you claim. I cannot imagine a sport fencer, even an elder one, not finding this very slow. But that's perfectly fine. As I said they have beautiful technique and are a treat to watch. I think it is obvious though that the slow speed of their movement is what allows them to stay at range, use the bind extensively like that and have these great looking, long exchanges. If they were fencing full speed it would look much different. Not saying they can't and for the record, I would love to learn from them.
