I'm a retired expat from USA. I live in Santa Elena, Cayo. I'm single, live alone. I rent a really nice cottage on about 1/4 acre of fenced land. Private and surrounded by lush jungle and flowers. 4 tenths of a mile to the main drag with grocery stores, tons of small mom and pop shops, anything you need. Just incredible. The birds ,butterfly's, lizards, snakes and scary little creepy things they don't mention. All make living here great. Not to forget about the heat here. It gets over 100 sometimes but never gets below 65. I have not run into one local ever with an attitude. Not one. people are so nice here. I live on my SS only. But I live here on less than $1000 USD per month. No BS here. Month after month under $1000. That includes,rent,electric,gas(hot water, cooking),internet, cell phone,water,insurance and gas for my motorcycle. This also includes food for the month. Great healthy meals home cooked. I bought my motorcycle brand new here. A brand new dependable bike here costs about $2500 USD. 100 + mpg. I have no other bills so that's how I live comfortably in Belize under $1000.

I’ve lived here now for over 3yrs it’s a wonderful little community filled with Canadians Americans and some folks from Europe and Belizians as well we get by here quite easily on a budget of around 1500usd per month

as an expat from Canada living here for over 3yrs now I feel qualified to answer this question.. if you own your home and live a reasonable lifestyle you can get by very easily on 1500 usd per month

Is I ok to work occasionally outside Belize on QRP? Husband would like to continue with occasional storm work which would involve short burst outside the country. Also, is there an amount of savings that would be considered acceptable. Considering purchasing land, maybe build something small to holiday in until ready to early retirement, then sell our home in Canada and move. The proceeds from our farm would add to our savings, and we would not want to draw on our pension until it matured. Thanks.

They changed this rule a few months ago, so if you retire under the QRP you're able to generate revenue (get a job, etc).

We’ve been to Ambergris Caye many times before, and finally In late February 2024 my wife and I purchased oceanfront property in the Palmero point area. We are looking to sell our home here in upstate New York and live on Ambergris Caye full-time. So this video was informative and very important to us. House on stilts was also good to stay dry when it floods which was a problem in Belize City.

The liberalization of the regulations is an enlightening step that so many other countries don't consider. It's a huge benefit for us older retired folks recognized as just as important as the young and frisky digital nomad demographic!! At least when the weather isn't oppressively hot and humid! Or at least near cool sea breezes!

They say Belize is getting more developed, and the prices are going up up up. Will it still be such a great deal in ten years?

My fellow counselor, I am an American married to my Belizean wife for over 23 years and we've always lived in the U.S. I intend to apply for Belizean citizenship in the near future. Am I still required to live in Belize for one year to qualify for such citizenship? The language of the statute states that "if any applicant marries a Belizean citizen, such applicant shall be deemed to have been legally resident in Belize from the date of such marriage," however other information refers to actually having to be physically present in the country for one year. That may be for newlyweds. It's a little confusing. If physical presence for that time frame is required, is travel then authorized and then for how long? Thanks my friends.

Depends on your lifestyle is good. Get to the point, they are .50 on the usd. Of course you can go to a touristy location and spend 20 bzd on a drink if your an idiot. Or say get a fan and adapt, then shit on the mainland is half the price. Which is still overpriced.
