I might have misspoken. I’m currently reading Romancing Mr Bridgerton (book 4) and I’m really enjoying it quite a bit. Colin and Pen have such a cute sense of humour in their friendship, and I love seeing it evolve. Feels more natural than and their chemistry (even as friends) is better than on the show.

So I am about to finish up the novel, just a quick question how many years pass in the novel? This break down has been great I feel like I missed a lot from the first half of the book, granted I am listening to it and I have also never read a Dune novel only saw the movies. I know I know I should read the Franks novel first.... but I am all about timelines and want to experience it that way first lolzzz

Surprisingly not much time passes. In Jihad we're already 1000 years into the reign of the machines on the synchronised worlds, and that's when we meet Vor at 20 years old. In book 2 Crusade he comments that he's nearly 60. His age is a pretty good guide. From book 1-3 is just over a century, which feels pretty short for the Dune universe, but I thought it was well-paced.

3:00 OH. That's interesting. I wonder if Herbert took any courses in philosophy because the Golden Path seems to have a lot in common with real life philosophy. The most obvious being Fredrick Nietzsche's Ubermensch who makes themself the meaning of a meaningless world, but I think the Golden Path is more akin to Soren Kierkegaard's Knight of Faith. One who takes a leap of faith and because of that, frees themself of all moral doubt.

Team Debling! Not convinced of Colin's sudden love confession. I'm terribly afraid of how he will take Penelope being Lady Whistledown. Would've liked to see more of Francesca and Lord Kilmartin's storyline develop.

Agreed! Ugh and Colin’s rushed “proposal” in the carriage… yeah no. Their scenes were in such gorgeous settings (the pink sweet shop, the kissing in the moonlight, the fern canopy)… the stage was set, but somehow it didn’t quite come together. Lord Kilmartin re-arranging the music had me swooning, but… I need to see more. They might be too similar so they end up being a bit boring. Goodness she’s so stunning though.

If sending a blind man to the desert is a gift for the worms then it is a pretty shitty gift. The worms are absolutely enormous, some of them hundreds of metres long and seriously wide. It would be like thinking that giving someone a gummy bear is a gift. Big deal.

2:20 What do you mean, you think? Did you not watch season2? The Featheringtons, more precisely, Mama F. outsmarted the dubious young Lord Featherington and with Colins help (unbeknownst to Colin, though) Lord F. was driven out of town, she kept the money and the forged document that signs over the estate to the first-born male heir of her daughters. And that's the fortune they live on now, Aunt Petunia is just a front...

I'm agree i some part. The actor are brillant but the character are dimish in the serie. Penelope with Lady C (even if i'm on her side for this) and Eloise. Anthony and Kate with Edwina, Anthony with Daphne in season 1; Benedicte who are totally lost. Colin who act like a child in season 1 and was to flirty this season (no need for that), Daphne who is to in the mariage for her first season (in the book she is in her third and no desperate) Eloise... I'm uspet that Colin didn't know about penelope and LW before the proposal. It's dimish penelope to accept without telling him. But I will wacth the part 2 because I love the actor and the costume.

I mean, I see a few people complaining about it, but I think people need to understand that this story is different from the previous ones. Unlike Kate and Simon, who were both new to the balls and both brothers, Anthony and Daphne, didn't know these people, Pen and Colin have known each other since they were children. For the other two couples, it kind of started with a mutual attraction and with misunderstandings and bad communication between the couples, and that during the episodes of their seasons, they got to know each other more deeply and thus fell in love and solved the problems they had in the final. As I said, Pen and Colin, there's no reason to have this. They've both known each other since they were children, it's not something new. Their story/ this season has already started with love because, yes, friendship is love. Since the first season, and if we are to use our imagination and think that their story began much earlier as children- imagine them play together with Eloise etc, they have been showing us how they understand and care for each other and respect each other too. Colin always searched for Pen at the balls to talk to her and make jokes about society, how Pen is the only one who really pays attention to the philosophies that Colin wants to share with others about the trips he takes, but no one cares, except Pen. How he talks it easily, as he doesn't do it with anyone else, the insecurities he feels because he doesn't feel like he hasn't found his purpose in life yet and Pen also shares her dreams with him. Colin asks Pen if she's okay when he feels something is wrong because he knows when something isn't right because he knows her better than anyone. How he defends Pen's family, because of her of course, the look of admiration and connection they both give at each other in the ball in season 1 when they are making jokes or in the second season, the look of longing he gives her when he returns from his trips and see her after months, or the look of enchantment he gives Pen when she tells him about her dreams, the letters exchanged between them, Colin defending Pen from Cressida, Colin dancing with her because he truly likes dancing with Penelope, breaking all the rules of etiquette with Penelope etc etc etc, this moments, for the high society of the 19th century, it is literally them already courting each other, so much so that Fife in the last episode of the last season asks if Colin was courting her, they practically behave as married people might behave towards each other at that century. They know each other a thousand times more than many couples who got married in the 19th century. The difference is that with Pen's insecurities, she thinks there's no chance of him wanting to be with her and Colin who doesn't see beyond their friendship (perhaps for fear of losing her friendship) and can't see beyond the little girl he met many years ago, they both remain in this friendship that borders on something more, but without both realising it. Of course, there are certain things that, even as friends, we have difficulty sharing, but they already have the important foundation in a love story. Friendship, understanding, respect, protection, admiration, and loyalty. What was missing in their relationship, unlike the other couples, was desire. Even Pen, who already had the idea that she was in love with him, was more innocent and without any idea of the awakening of sexual desire in their relationship and the same thing happens to him, Colin from the first season who never went to a brothel as Anthony says, so he was probably a virgin and in the second season he didn't even want to think about women, the only women he let near him were his sisters, his mother and of course his dear friend, Penelope who is special enough to overcome the barriers he imposed. This season, they are exploring more in this first part, it is the desire that awakens in both parties after the first kiss, meanwhile Colin tries to help Pen and at the same time he tries to suppress what he feels and the desire to continue to go to her like before and talk freely without holding back and without needing to change his personality like he is doing with the people around him. Literally, when Pen reads his diary that he's been with women and writes, "I'm amazed at how it's possible to feel so much intimacy, but also such great distance.", it's basically him admitting that he's in shock that one person can be with people so intimately, but without a sentimental connection and this bothers him a lot and he tells his "friends" in the bar, how much he feels lonely. He can't be like Anthony from the first season, or Benedict or any man in society, he doesn't feel satisfied with himself by having 5 minutes of intimacy with unknown women and leaving them as if it meant nothing, he tries to follow what other men do but he doesn't likes it, he needs to feel a connection in these most vulnerable moments. He finally feels this complete connection the moment he kisses Penelope. He feels the feelings that were always there for her and finally with a first more intimate touch with Penelope, the physical desire for Penelope finally awakes/is discovered, everything he was looking for in a person, what he was looking for since the first season and what he was looking for in the 17 cities he visited, it was always there in London in front of his house. And everything culminates and explodes in the carriage scene, where Colin has the courage to declare himself and has the courage to try to change the status of their relationship at the risk of losing the connection/friendship that he has always kept in his heart for Penelope so dearly and Penelope finally admits what she's always held dear: that she wants more than friendship from him. Even the first kiss, that she asked, it was already a bold move from her, the shy little girl of season 1 or 2 would never do it, but for the first time, with fear of never marrying and feel the intimacy of another person and become a spinster, she asks to the one person she trusts and she has feelings for. It is the first time she forgets her fears and gains courage for what she really wants and with that Colin go down bad for her, so much so that he really do what he said in episode 8 of season 2, he wouldn't officially court her or wait another minute, he will take action immediately and directly ask her to marry him. 😂

Colin has always loved her and always sought her out, the slow burn started since season 1 however he never realised that the love was actually something romantic until saw her in a different light in season 3, the kiss just set it off, and he felt physically ill because of this. hopefully in part 2 they'll show more of his feelings. The reason why i think pen gave in easy is because shes loved him for 10 years, this is everything shes ever wanted, and now he finally likes her back, shes going to jump at that with her full heart.

The way you wrote this makes it sound quite romantic :) I might have to rewatch S1, because I never sensed that. I felt that he loved her strictly platonically. You are right though, it's unrealistic to expect her to reject him, but that's because they sabotaged Deblin! I wanted to believe even just for a minute that it would be too late for Collin, before they got together. Ah well, I'm still very excited for part 2.

Huh? Are you blaming Collin for not loving her? That's not his fault. She fell in love with him and he wasn't interested in her that way. Why should he be punished for that? No one is owed a romantic relationship, man or woman.
@Internetrando
@Internetrando 26 күн бұрын
I get what you mean, and I agree. I wanted her to maybe reject Collin and for him to then work a bit more to deserve her. A few romantic gestures and scenes would have been nice, like if he declared his love for her at the ball in front of everyone. Deblin had a pretty interesting personality, and he was quite well fleshed out even though his scenes were limited. You're right, in comparison we don't really know Collin.

Thanks for the summary, i have finnished The Hunters of Dune audiobook in Thursday and was curious what is in front of me. Can't wait to listen to this book next week. Fantastic video. I would also like to add that im very happy to have another Dune book written by Herbert's son. Instead of having no books after his death we can "swim" in the vast ocean of this incredible world he created and continued by his son. People can have different opinions that the quality is different but for me personally, i was and still am very, very happy what we got from Herbert's son. Just simply stunning. After this book i plan to listen to audiobooks of sequels.

I actually liked the relationship with Ember - she stayed up late to make the dress and they seemed to have a great relationship. I felt like the whole Bell family was lovely to be honest. In a lot of these stories, the trope is usually that the girl is the rose growing on a garbage heap and everyone else is crap. Great summary

It’s like you looked into my brain, I completely agree with your opinions. I’ve only seen two TikTok’s about it which were completely positive, so I’m really glad that you mention how bad Lydia and Mr. Suttons’s relationship is. And about Ruby‘s sister: I’m German so I watched it in the German original and I thought maybe I found her to be so weird because of her kind of off intonation, but it sounds like she was just a weirdly written and played character. Do you think the crush the one male friend with the glasses has on Ruby will actually addressed in the next season?
@Internetrando
@Internetrando Ай бұрын
I don’t think the glasses guy crush will be addressed only because he and Ruby have zero chemistry, so I’d have a hard time believing that there’s even a possibility for them, unless he really glows up and gains a bit of confidence at uni. I think they just wanted to show how shy and overlooked he was by Ruby, which is a nice starting point for his own storyline romance finding a real love instead of the idealised unrequited one. I did see Lin looking at him in one scene in a way that made me kind of wonder. That could be interesting if they really flesh both of their characters out a bit more. As for the sister, I was a bit scared that she’d sabotage Ruby somehow and I was so surprised that she was really sweet after all. Very weird vibe though. lol
@ene66
@ene66 Ай бұрын
@@Internetrando I also don’t think he has a chance with her and having three potential love interests (James, Oxford guy and him) would be overkill. But it’s also kind of useless if they don’t do anything with him since having a crush on her was the only character trait he had. I could only think of him being used as past evidence of Ruby being preferred over Lin, because for me it also looked like Lin might be interested in him and I think I picked up on a similar dynamic with Oxford guy having a crush on Ruby while Lin is also interested in him. Yes, there’s definitely a disconnect between the relationship Ruby and her sister supposedly have and what we can actually see in their acting

Crazy, I can’t do awkward on television either! There is this show that was on in the 80s called _Just the Ten of Us_ that was syndicated on late night TV in the 90s when I grew up. One of the characters wanted bigger breasts, so she stuffed her bra. She was getting a lot of male attention, and she really liked this guy who asked her out. She was afraid he might only be interested in her breasts though, so she apparently told him in a restaurant on a date that she stuffed her bra. As soon as she pulls her fake boobs out, I always had to change the channel. It’s happened three times in my life. I just can’t watch it. I’m too embarrassed. If anybody remembers that, can you tell me what happened? Did he get upset? Did he leave her at the restaurant or was he cool? OMG, just secondhand embarrassment to the Max even thinking about it.

Wow. I’ve never seen the show, and I decided to watch this because I don’t really have the attention span to watch a bunch of hour long shows in a season. However, I can relate to Rue’s reason for her drug use so far (I’m only like five minutes into the video, but when she said she took drugs in order to help her anxiety, it hit me HARD-I can totally relate to that). It’s the only reason I became an addict. I was addicted to opiates for six years. I consider myself lucky to be alive, and I consider myself lucky to have only been addicted for six years. This is a lifelong struggle for many people, and it might be a lifelong struggle for me if something horrifying happens. Relapse is the crocodile in the corner waiting to gobble you up at all times. But I did not use opiates to get high. I did it to help my anxiety. I have four anxiety disorders, so I pretty much became addicted to anything that helped it. I’m clean now off opiates and any sort of illicit substances. I do have a prescription for Klonopin to manage my anxiety, but I do not abuse it ever because I am terrified of running out. Drug addiction should be treated as a disease, and people should not be judged because of it. I can’t stand how judgy people are about drug addicts. They can’t Help themselves. People act like folks _want_ to be addicts. Trust me, nobody ordered addiction on Amazon prime yesterday. *No one wants to be an addict*.
