The old cars suck in crash test. However, with basic maintenance; the old car(minus a mangled collision), will LONG outlive the newer model.

That's the trade-off. The newer model dies better; but, the older model lives better. How did we get better collision technology while simultaneously loosing long-lasting craftsmanship?

Wow. That Ford clearly doesn't have the wheel deflector beem just behind the front tires. Ram and Jeep put that heavy gauge frame behind the front wheels to keep them from penetrating the cabin. That's why it does so much better in this test.

Notice how much better it did on the driver's side than on the passenger's side (G vs A). GM clearly did not expect a passenger side test and only engineered the driver's side to pass the test (previous-generation Grand Cherokee did the same thing with an even more pronounced difference). This is the difference between a safe vehicle (pretty much anything European, Mazda) and a vehicle designed to pass very specific tests (GM, Toyota, Honda, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Subaru). The same reason the moderate overlap rear passenger safety is Poor.

We all know which driver was playing with their cell phone and caused the "accident"!

I guess IIHS knows best but what's on display here is pretty concerning. It's not just "some buckling", when the front wheel gets pushed back the whole side of the car gets pushed in with the driver's seat getting a jolt inward. That doesn't look "good" to me, may be fine at this 40mph test but it doesn't give confidence about the car's safety in other situations.

The chevy has a A pilar that doesn't excist, so that's one of the reasons why it's unsafe.

Ford is like the Boeing of the automotive world. They proved time and time again that they don't care for safety.

That’s interesting cus these same manufacturers make other models that do well when subjected to these same tests. Goes to show they don’t change until they have to.

This explains allot. I saw the aftermath of a Mercedes E Class that had gone slightly head on into a new expedition. The E Class had crumpled but the drivers door had no damage and opened just fine. The expedition looked like it got sliced with a hot knife...i guess engineering over sheer size won that battle.
