@@andrepoiy1199 Ford knew if it wasn't being tested, they could save money by not strengthening it for test. Once again proving why these tests are so important on all types of vehicles.

THIS. THIS is what happens when manufacturers are not tested. THIS is why I will never buy a car that hasn't been tested by the IIHS or met their exact standards. Unfuckingbelieveable that cars designed as early as 2003 fare better. Holy hell this is atrocious.

It's also brand specific, I think. Toyota and Ford are lazy and not proactive. Volvo always is, I would bet that the untested large BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS would do just as well as the smaller counterparts. But really I think any car that's halfway common and around for years should be tested by the IIHS.

@@SuperMrgentleman I feel like certain car manufacturers have become complacent, mainly the very successful ones with crazily high sales figures. Meanwhile, smaller car manufacturers like Mazda that have to try their absolute hardest to get even just a tiny bit of sales are making new cars that are really safe.

Really I'm kind of surprised it took the IIHS this long to test an Expedition/Lincoln and the Tahoe/Suburban/Escalade/Yukon. They're not incredibly high sellers but they're not exotics and they've been on the market for many decades and I'm sure insurance companies see them in high claim accidents regularly.

The Expedition's structure is terrible but somehow only a moderate amount of force is recorded in the lower dummy's leg. The Expedition gets the Institute's second lowest rating, marginal. June 6, 2024 5:54PM

If they make it much stiffer, there is no survival chance in any smaller car. Remember, hitting the barrier is equivalent to hitting the exact same car. I assume the car would do much better in real life hitting a lighter car.

This ^^ KZfaq comments consistently remind me that most people didn't make it through high school physics or simply don't pay attention. The only thing people in an Expedition have to fear is something bigger... And there aren't many passenger vehicles out there bigger than this.

@@DanielBeard-bt7mn, not a chance. Any small car will disintegrate against this. The problem for the Expedition is it's a victim of it's own weight hitting an immovable object. Yes, it should hold up better here but it'll still win against smaller vehicles.
