"Unambitious people want everyone else to stay in their lane." - this. So much this.

Gripping discussion, and the book sounds fantastic, must check it out. My upcoming novel is in the meta-horror space as well (plus satire and science fiction elements as well). I'd actually had an idea kicking around about telling a story and it being retold multiple times by the same person, but at different stages of their life, was wondering if there was existing work like that out there, really interesting to hear.

I stumbled upon this book and absolutely consumed it in a single evening. This interview told me what I already suspected; that, despite the outlandish premise, it was a sincerely written book that engages with the society-wide solipsism we’ve trapped ourselves in, and tries to catalyse something beyond it. Loved how much you interrogated the craft, excellent questions and conversation, and genuinely good chemistry borne from a real connection. So glad to have been able to catch this, thanks for posting it here!

So happy you enjoyed it! There really is more under the covers here than most would imagine. Grady is such a thoughtful author, and I really appreciate how open he was about the struggle to make this book a reality.

As an autistic person, I relate so much to MB. It really reflects how i feel about my own humanity, my own discomfort with socialising, and my own obsessions i would much rather be doing. I'm so happy to have encountered this series.

I loved your interview. The fact you let her speak and that you're into the book and 'get' it. And that you make a point to use 'it' to gender murderbot correctly. You can just tell hearing the interview that she's more comfortable here than I've seen in others, and I think it's at least partly due to the respect you give. Loved getting to hear more from her and gaining more depth to an amazing series!

I am beyond glad this podcast is back and that things are turning around for you. You're an amazing host that actually reads the books and that is rare with author interviews. You have turned me on to so many good authors and books because you actually dive into the material. As an aspiring writer it always gives me so much to think about when approaching my own stories. Keep going! I will definitely keep supporting you.

Interesting interview, thank you!❤ I think, many people do not understand the idea of these books: the main character is not a robot, not a human, and Murderbot doesn' t want to be a human! (And you say it!) He has personality, but not like people. Most readers think that Murderbot becomes more human-like as the story progress, and they think about - is it possible to consider bots equal to a human. I think this story of Murderbot (Killerbot in my language:) is more interesting - a story about new type of corporate slaves, their ways of think, own POVs, own thoughts and wishes, and at last - how humanity is still antropocentric. And many readers only confirms it:)

to think of m.b. as a kind of expanded man, a human with fantasies and fluid ideas about their life, their existence if you will and their perspective and experience integrating more or less metaphorically their perspective and surrounding circumstances ... would that work?

OH THANK GOODNESS she didn't kill MurderBot! Oh my gosh that was a close shave. I mean, the book had kind of a sad ending anyway, but thank goodness it wasn't *that* bleak, and left the door open for more shenanigans. A really enjoyable interview, thank you so much.
