Really helpful reminder, thank you Adam! Here's how I set everything up through my Apollo for my mastering chain in Logic Pro. I run everything through my Apollo Twin Quad. On the stereo Mixbus channel, I send the signal out to my mastering hardware (SSL Fusion, with send to the Tegeler Creme compressor, followed by the BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer). All devices are connected via XLR and TRS cables to and from the Apollo audio interface. In the Apollo console, remember to link inputs 1 and 2 to create a stereo pair by clicking both inputs, right-clicking, and selecting 'Link.' I place the I/O plugin directly onto my stereo out channel in Logic. My current mastering chain on the Logic Pro stereo channel is: 1. Some type of saturation to warm up the signal (e.g., Softube Tape, or UAD Ampex ATR102) 2. Routing out to the hardware via the Apple I/O utility plugin (SSL Fusion, Tageler Creme, BBE Sonic Maximizer 882i) 3. Kclip 3 (Clipper) 4. Fabfilter Pro L2 (Limiter) I then bounce the stereo WAV or MP3 as usual. My mastering chain is always evolving as I experiment with different plugins, so have fun with it! My next step is getting my hardware outboard gear working with Ableton Live since I'm using Live for EDM Dance Electro/Pop

I sent this video to @VictoryAmps, here's their response: "Listening to the noise in the video, this is perfectly normal. When pushing the output section of an amplifier, the laminations of the transformer will move and vibrate more noticeably. All of our transformers are potted which help to lower the amount of noise. Historically this hasn't been noticed until amplifier attenuators have been used. All Victory Amplifiers use Demeter transformers, who have a great heritage in making transformers for guitar and bass amplifiers." So there's nothing wrong with my amp(s). As I mentioned in other comment(s), it's not a problem, the sound that I'm getting in the DAW is perfect, it's just an inconvenience...

I don't understand how a tube amp can be generalized to be difficult or complicated - this may be true for your amp but not for all. And it is _NOT_ normal that your amp does make this noise and it definitly isn't true for all tube amps. In fact my tube amps are dead silent.
@yaniv-nos-tubes
@yaniv-nos-tubes Ай бұрын
1.standby: who told you that you just can't turn off a tube amp at once? there is no reason whatsoever to wait when turning off you can even unplug from the wall with no damage to the tubes or circuit if you don't believe me watch psionic audio or brad the guitologist on the subject on youtube or even dave friedman on tone talk. when turning the amp on you are correct (as long as you don't have a tube rectifier) so you wait 2 minutes while you tune the guitar no big deal for the best tone. 2.heat :get an air conditioner .the heat is nice in the winter 3.noise. something is wrong with your victory amp they are lunchbox amps that's not a very clever design for a tube amp. my 1974x is dead silent at all volumes i have experience with many tube amps all silent unless there is a problem .go to a tech or swap the amp. 4. if you think that studio monitors with tiny 3" drivers give you the full experience you are seriously missing out. you need a cab with 12" speakers, at least one good one otherwise tube amps can be pointless they react with their speakers. 5.enjoy your tone quest!
@AdamBards
@AdamBards Ай бұрын
1. Here's what it says in the official user guide by Victory included with the amp: "leave at least 30 seconds before switching from PREHEAT to Off." 2. Good point about the winter :D 3. Hm, both of my amps do that noise(Kraken is louder) so I assumed it's normal 4. For sure, unfortunately not doable because of neighbours, I'm already quite fortunate to be able to record guitars late in the evening. 5. Thank you!

@@AdamBards 1. It's an old myth, but letting it cool on standby won't hurt anything either (science of loud has a video on it) 2. yeah, they are hot lol 3. Some circuits are more noisey than others, but often amps(often the tubes) can suffer from defects that cause more noise 4. The oxbox is fantastic, but you might be better off getting larger monitors. Going from 3" 2way monitors to 6" 2way monitors was a massive change for mimicking the feel of an amp in the room 5. Don't enjoy it too much, or your wallet will hate you 😂😂
@052RC
@052RC Ай бұрын
The amp shouldn't be making that noise. You may want to have someone look at it. Aside from that, I think at least some of your issues come from not fully understanding the differences between gain and volume. This is very important, not just for guitar, but for anytime you are working with audio gear. Knowing all the details will allow you to get better tone with less noise. Basically, when you overdrive tubes to distort, you're applying excess gain to the tubes in the preamp. Where most people go wrong is with volume. A volume control can't overdrive or distort the signal in any way. And if you know how all this works, you can use gain and volume to get a better tone, and have much less noise. You'll also benefit knowing how to indirectly overdrive your power tubes. You're used to working with solid state amps and you don't do things quite the same way with tubes. But once you know all of the details, you won't have any problems.

Hey cool video, here's a little explanation I hope it's understandable. Warm greetings from Germany! Since you have inserted an XLR plug into a combination socket, the Apollo recognizes that the connection is on all 3 pins of the XLR and sets the MIC level. If you insert a TRS cable instead of the XLR, it would recognize the three contacts in the TRS. With an XLR it always depends on the MIC level and with a TRS, Line. This is for all interfaces with a combination socket the same.

@AdamBards 4 ай бұрын
The mic goes into the MIC/LINE inputs on the Apollo. If you're using both outboard gear and a microphone, then you might need an audio interface with more inputs. Or maybe your outboard gear is a preamp or a compressor? Then you plug the microphone into the outboard gear inputs and the outboard gear outputs into the audio interface inputs.
