Nice video. I have 2 msd ignition boxes for my nascar. swapped coil from 8250 to 8252 msd blaster, as it was just bogging down under load. now car just starts and dies after 4 seconds. tried both the msd 6tn box and msd hvc box, same exact result. I guess it must be distributor then? It's a brand new coil, and fuel is all good, carb is new. I was going to start checking wiring too first to be sure!!

@SnowFamilyRacing 5 сағат бұрын
The distributor really has 2 jobs here unless you have a crank trigger, then it's just 1. It's job is to sense when to fire via the magnetic pick up and points at where to send the spark to. Check the magnetic pick up, and just run through all the normal electrical diag stuff, correct power, good ground, proper connections, and rule those out before going and spending more money on parts that you may or may not need.

Presently chasing a sudden crank no-start issue. It’s getting fuel, spark plugs are a bit rough so replacing, but I’m thinking this is going to be the resolution at the end of the day. I’ve avoided the HEI hoping it wasn’t related… but it appears the time has come 😂 Thank you for the extremely thorough video from someone learning on her own ❤

Good video. I tried solutions like this in the past. Just took my clutter and condensed my clutter (if that makes sense). I ended up just *organizing* my cordless tools with a pegboard setup, which is much more manageable and functional imo.

Thanks for the video. I really like this set. For me, seems like a good solution for truck tools on the go. The only issue I have is I wish there was a base to lock it into place when traveling. I.e. like the Milwaukee pack out system - they have shelving and base units you can install in your truck to keep in place.

I totally understand. I now have almost 2 years on the Tradestack, it's become my toolbox that goes to the track. I'm using a tie down to tie it to existing shelves in the trailer. It represents a good value to price, I really wish it had better support with accessories like that. It's like it was built then forgotten about. I've been keeping the Versastak socket and bit sets on top and they've proven to be nice to have and easy to find stuff when I have help at the track from someone not familiar with my box. I'm using mine all the time, going places, or around the homestead where something may be broke in an inconvenient location.

I’m just getting into engine building and if I’m correct, since this is carburetor, it’s self tuned from the carb and doesn’t need an ECU right?
@SnowFamilyRacing
@SnowFamilyRacing 6 күн бұрын
That is correct. The tuning is done by reading spark plugs and looking at other data. I work with Velocity Racing Carbs to help make the really fine adjustments that I don't completely understand, things like air bleeds and evaluating the on track data to make the car better. Not every tuner works with a computer, and we're working to make this car as good as possible to be as consistent as possible. I can get close, and I admit there are guys that know more than me, which is why I work with them. I want to learn more and working with mentors like them helps a lot.

Hello! Don’t know if this videos a little too old to get a comment back but I’m having some trouble. On my 80 Camaro with a 650 electric choke carb. Basically I have it tunned really well starts right up and runs great only problem is when I cold start it it doesn’t go to a high idle it just goes to normal idle, and I’d have to give it some gas to warm up but once the cars started it never stalls on it always stays running. I know this isn’t really that big of a deal but I’d like it to work properly yk idled up at 1500 and work its way down to 1000, right now it’s more like the idle raises once it’s warmed up and the chokes off from 800 ish idle to 1000 warm.
@SnowFamilyRacing
@SnowFamilyRacing 6 күн бұрын
Sounds like you need to adjust the choke up and make sure that it's actually doing its job. 2 options, the electric choke needs adjusted, or if the choke flap closes, you may need to bring the cold idle up to where it does something. First, is the choke actually working? Then, move to adjustments.
@nickymisorek3564
@nickymisorek3564 6 күн бұрын
@@SnowFamilyRacing if by “working” you mean opening and closing yes. When the engines cold the choke is shut and when the engines warm it’s fully open, the choke is working but the engines just not idled up cold. It’s an edelbrock 1406 electric choke 650 cfm
@SnowFamilyRacing
@SnowFamilyRacing 6 күн бұрын
Given that, look at the cold idle adjustment screw and see if it's even contacting the little pad that it's supposed to. If it's not and has an air gap, then screw it in until it raises the idle when cold.

Sir, I have a important question. I have a 1981 monte carlo with 267 V8 engine. I rebuilt it with what parts were left in the trunk. I can't find a prominate answer on if they used vacuum or non vacuum distributor? I don't have a CCC (ecm) on my kick panel. Anything info would be greatly appreciated
@SnowFamilyRacing
@SnowFamilyRacing 16 күн бұрын
1981 was the crossover year where they started to use the computer controlled stuff. My mom's '81, the blue one that's been on my channel, came with the 267 and a 2 bbl. It was computer controlled, my dad and I used a non computer controlled HEI and a small 4 bbl carb and removed the computer stuff. The computer controlled distributors did not have a vacuum advance diaphragm on the distributor. They used a vacuum or MAP sensor on the fender to figure the vacuum advance. The hardest part about the 267 was that it was a gutless wonder. My 3.8 Buick V6 in my Regal was more drivable. Keep the small runner 2bbl intake and use a carb from a year or 2 older car to get away from computer stuff. A 350 makes for a much more pleasant driving car. My mom's has a Goodwrench 350, granted it's not a big powerhouse, it's made it a very enjoyable car to drive and gets decent mileage.

I just purchase an msd 8401 coil cap with the spark plug looking device on it to replace my gm oldsmobile hei distributor's internal coil to an external 12 volt oil filled coil.I got stuck a few times out of no where.One thing about my 1980 oldsmobile delta 88 is, when it runs it runs.But once in a blue moon the car 's engine just quits. I read where 99% of the time the epoxy layered coil gradually from heat dissolves causing the layer of winding separated by the epoxy to touch causing more resistance in the coil slowly killing the ignition module.So if you change the module and not the coil as well , if the coil was what destroyed the module in the first place ,why wouldn't it destroy a new replacement module in minutes.Especially if the coil is at that stage for the module to burn out.Reguardles of any heat sink gel under the module. I heard a lot of people have done this with no problems .So l'm giving it a try.And looking at your modification as perhaps if needed the next step.Damnskippy!

Believe it or not, this is actually the first time I've taken a rear out and disconnected everything. I've done each one of those steps individually, just never all at the same time. It's just nuts and bolts. It's really not that big of a deal. The hardest part was getting it supported to go up into the car. This thing shouldn't break. It's 35 splines with the C clip eliminators with a spool and the cap supporting back brace. It's not quite as supported as a back braced 9", but it is a pretty serious piece.
