I LOVE LOVE LOVE the decor, the tiles, the massiveness of it, the balcony.. Plz take your time and dont rip everything out at once. This is a gorgeous place and all it needs is some planning and a bit of elbow grease and that is it.

For the narrow bathroom: if the neighbouring room will be your bedroom, you could consider moving the door to the bathroom there and optimize the bathroom layout with a more centered entry.

I think opening up rooms and making structural changes might be a rash decision. It’s important to honor the history of the space and think hard before making changes» It wasn’t connected to being a woman or American, though. More of a fiftyplus mom brain thinking «oh, the young people of today, they make such quick decisins that might be hard and costly to reverse». I moved last summer to an apartment that needed quite a bit of work but honestly I didn’t care but people came over before it was done making comments about how this needed to be done this way or was I really going to use that paint color 😑I am thrilled with how it turned out and my son and I are the ones living here and we’re happy so who gives a flip what anyone else thinks! How insulting for people to assume if you both choose something they don’t care for that it was the Americans fault ….

People these days have the idea that they're entitled to know everything about everyone (especially celebrities and content creators/influencers,) but really it's none of their business! It's not like they're going to be living in the apartment, so what does it matter to them how you chose to renovate it? Jeez, people really are nuts sometimes.

As an American who lived abroad for several years, the first two years it got under my skin a little too. After that, I accepted the fact that Americans have earned a reputation abroad for a reason. Seeing Americans poop in buskers' guitar cases, guys from Texas just slapping guys in bars because they're German, etc. etc. etc. It's a well earned reputation. I did my best to stay away from the Americans after that first two years.

It is also ok to only show pieces of a finished room you want others to see, (such furniture, a wall color or wallpaper, or art that you love) but not show the entire room. It is also ok to take pictures of things before they go into the room you are putting them in and to not tell us what room you are putting it in. Share the pieces of your home that you are comfortable sharing.
