Hello Mike, I have had a gledhill pulsa coil for about just over a year now I’ve had no hot water for about 3-4 days now, an engineer has inspected the boiler and everything seems to be working the boiler does work when I wire my booster switch to the main element as that has power all the time which is great for a temporary fix but it is still not heating up overnight which is my main problem really struggling how to sort this, any ideas?

Yeah they don’t tell you how much energy it takes to boost these heaters throughout the night, it’s like boiling a kettle continuously for 7 hours!

As soon as I let go of the top knob to turn it, the pilot goes out. It doesn't matter how long I hold it in for.

We have a glow worm boiler. We had a service, the fan went a few weeks later and had a new one fitted. Ever since it’s been making an awfully high pitched noise. Getting complaints from neighbours. Could this be the gas valve from reading previous comments? Shouldn’t this have been picked up in a service?

Either change or clean the injector and replace the blue o ring at the top of the Venturi, cheapest option at first.

Hey Mike, I'm having issues keeping the hot water going. The boiler needs to be depressed every time before using and then only runs for maybe a minute before shutting off. Just wondering if you had any ideas

Such a great help. Sure enough the spindle was solid. Got a big enough screwdriver in there that would fit the slot & managed to free it. Turned it over a few times, fired it up & now I have a warm house. I thought for sure I was going to need a new pump. The water where I live is hard & I haven’t used the central heating system in more than 6 years, so I’m very grateful. Thank You🙏

Hello Mike. Not sure if you're still there. My Netaheat MKIIF from 1985 won't spark and light the pilot. Any ideas? I can light it manually with the front off then it follows the correct sequence. Do I need a new 'generator ' circuit board? Probably not the PCB box because it otherwise fires up normally when manually lit? Thanks!

@miketheboilerman8363
@miketheboilerman8363 Жыл бұрын
Hi Dennis. No, in fact it's better to do it with the heating ON. That way when you get the shaft freed, it spins away on its own and you can see the job is done! Just bear in mind the wires around will be live so don't touch any bare terminals you might have access to.

What is the cause and the solution to this problem?
@miketheboilerman8363
@miketheboilerman8363 Жыл бұрын
It's explained in the video description Gengis. "The cause is a failing gas valve. Gas analysis during the noise revealed astronomical amounts of carbon monoxide being produced by this boiler, fortunately being blown out through the flue to outside but dangerous all the same. A new gas control valve fixed the problem. Not really a DIY job."

My powermax 155x makes singing noise like in your other video. If I touch the spinning fan blades, the singing noise becomes lounder,is it a failing fan or the gas valve?

Hi James, it's impossible to tell. The singing noise is fixed on various Powermax boilers by a wide selection of different things. You just have to try a few and see what works.

Hello, thank you for explaining. I've moved into a flat with economy 7, when I use my appliances during the day (I work from home) and lights/heating etc is this drawing electricity from the night rate when the tank has already heat up. Or while I'm working from home are my appliances drawing electricity from the day rate please?
@miketheboilerman8363
@miketheboilerman8363 Жыл бұрын
Hello Chante. Lights and heating used in the daytime will be drawing power at daytime price. Hot water however, drawn in the daytime will be using energy stored from the previous night's heat-up at off peak prices. (Unless you have the 'daytime boost' heater element switched on.) Hope that helps, Mike

Thanks for the video! I have similar pump (model - grundfos ups15-58fc) but it doesn't have the screw and I have to take the whole black cover off to get a glimpse of what's inside. All I see is a metal covering? that takes up most of where the screw should be. Any tips or do I need to take the whole pump apart? I'm thinking the shaft just ins't turning. Thanks!

Hi Mike. I want to thank you and didn’t know how to so here I am on this video because I hope you get to read it (this video is not related to my issue BTW). My vented bungalow central heating boiler pipes started making horrible gurgling, sloshing sounds about a week ago, it started completely out of the blue. It’s been quite worrying, all sorts goes through your mind (expense and worst case scenarios) and I can’t get a plumber out so have been frantically trying to understand how everything works myself because I turned everything off two days ago. It sounded that bad. This morning I found a piece you wrote about how systems work with an idiot proof diagram and issues where the Fill and Expansion tanks can evaporate dry over time with the ball cocks sticking. That’s EXACTLY what I found about an hour ago. I reckon these long scorching summer months haven’t helped. So, I pushed the ballcock down and filled up the tank. Fired up the oil boiler and all was whisper quiet again. FANTASTIC!! I have satisfied myself the ballcock works ok it just needed a wiggle to break the scale off. So, thank you, thank you, thank you. UR a ⭐

Chanttelle, your Promax is a fully automatic gas boiler which lights itself whenever it needs to come ON. I'm afraid if yours won't light, there is a fault and you'll need to call out a Gas Safe Registered plumber or boiler technician. Sorry!

Please can you help me? My ideal boiler is making this noise. At first there is no noise but it starts about 25 minutes after turning on the radiators. I have turned the dial to water only as I am worried about keeping it on with this noise - I assume it’s dangerous to keep it on with this noise? There are no fault codes showing and nothing in the appliance guides refers to it. I have someone booked to come and look at it next week but in the meantime I am very cold. I have rheumatoid arthritis and am recovering from sepsis so I feel the cold very much. Is there anything I can do in the meantime to enable me to put the heating on for a while?
@miketheboilerman8363
@miketheboilerman8363 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jay, sorry to hear you’re not well. Your boiler is NOT dangerous while it makes this noise.There is no harm in carrying on using it, other than to your ears! Do turn it back ON again and get yourself warm. You’ll find it only makes the noise as the boiler turns itself down when the rads are hot, so you could try turning it off when the noise starts then waiting half an hour and turning it back ON again, and keep doing this to get warm whilst keeping it quiet while you wait for your technician to visit. A new gas valve fitted to the boiler usually fixes this. Kind regards, Mike

Hi there, I am really hoping you will respond to this. I live in a council flat. I have had to endure this noise for hours on end every winter for over three years now. The council has sent engineers out to look at the boiler, who waited around for a couple of minutes to see if the boiler made the noise. It didn't, so I played a video of it to them and they claimed that they didn't know what it was, then left. What can I do? Because honestly, by this point, I am ready to just stop using the boiler altogether and give up. I'm getting to the point I'd rather just be cold than listen to this any longer.
@miketheboilerman8363
@miketheboilerman8363 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jo, this is an unfortunate tale. The thing about this noise is it only happens when the boiler has been running for a while. Once the boiler has heated up the house, it turns itself down to minimum output and that's when the noise usually starts. The council gas engineer needs to wait until the boiler 'modulates down' to hear the noise themselves. A workaround for you the user would be to run the boiler for 20 minutes or half an hour until the noise starts, then turn it OFF and wait an hour, then turn it ON again. This way it never runs at minimum output making the noise. Hope that helps, Mike

I'd elevate your complaint to higher council management or your councillor if it does not get resolved. You should not have to put up with the noise. It's a fault. I worked ten years as gas engineer on social housing. It's not difficult to resolve when all is said and done. It's either Venturi needs cleaning or its the gas valve.
