How do you keep the armature stuck in the wood?
@JCCappelletti Жыл бұрын
earlier video shows the process. Short screws through a simple loop in the foot of the armature, works perfectly

these are live recordings from a class I did... live... in front of a group of people. This is the footage they saw as I explained what I'm doing and it's from 10 years ago. And it's free.

i know you posted this years ago, just wanted to ask, do you still do the full muscle range when putting clothes on the finished peice?
@JCCappelletti Жыл бұрын
yes, I still do this method..., also do this when making digital characters in 3D. It's the same skill and it always helps to make them look more alive and realistic, even for cartoon or stylized characters.

How do you manage if this hand is attached already to a forearm?
@JCCappelletti2 жыл бұрын
it is possible but a lot harder. I usually detach the hands like this and then add back to the model. Especially if they are this small.

Thanks. I did this today. It was quick and fun. I’m an abstract stone sculptor and use clay to make maquettes prior to carving stone. This was a nice break from working on abstract designs. Keep up the good work.

i have a problem where i make 20 centimeters high humans and cant put in the face details because the head is too small
@JCCappelletti3 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is very small. Honestly, most miniature work like this is done in 3D software and printed to achieve high detail at such a small size.

Are small pieces like this able to be baked even though they are solid? I’m curious because I know on the packaging it advises avoiding areas more than 1/2 inch thick to avoid cracking and that foil is usually used as a base.
@JCCappelletti Жыл бұрын
great question. Yes they can be baked. I would recommend a lower temp and longer time if you have thicker parts and you dont want to burn the thinner parts. If you try to bake thick pieces quickly, the outside will bake, and shrink slightly, causing the soft inside to make cracks. Even with the cracks, you will have a mostly solid and hard piece baked, and you could fill and bake again, or just fill and paint

Here is the new link to the type of clay I'm using in these videos. It's called Super Sculpey Grey Firm. www.sculpey.com/super-sculpey/9-super-sculpey-firm?search_query=super+firm&results=2 They have also added a new type of clay that answers most people requesting a clay that is firmer than Super Sculpey (beige) but not as firm as Firm. www.sculpey.com/super-sculpey/10-super-sculpey-medium-blend?search_query=super+firm&results=2

Every clay is easy to take away and add on
@JCCappelletti3 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree in this context. Various clays have very different properties, obviously. From what I have felt and been able to make with Super Sculpey, I've found it the easiest for me to make seamless joins when adding fresh pieces to an existing sculpt. Especially compared to Air Dry (Earth Clay), once it is partially dry, it is very hard to join a new piece of fresh clay without having the piece crack apart on baking. Not trying to be pedantic, just very seriously want you to know my reasoning behind that comment in the class.

how did you get her forehead so smooth? What would you recommend for getting clay to be almost glass smooth??
@JCCappelletti3 жыл бұрын
just keep using the clay. eventually you get a feel for how to smooth it with your fingers without smushing or imprinting. Also helps to use the "Firm" variety.
