Looks like Sculpey.com changed their website links. Here is the new link to the type of clay I'm using in these videos. It's called Super Sculpey Grey Firm. www.sculpey.com/super-sculpey/9-super-sculpey-firm?search_query=super+firm&results=2 They have also added a new type of clay that answers most people requesting a clay that is firmer than Super Sculpey (beige) but not as firm as Firm. www.sculpey.com/super-sculpey/10-super-sculpey-medium-blend?search_query=super+firm&results=2

Thank you Mr Cappelletti for these videos, all the others I watched were nice but it was like cliff notes, its like "see what I can do?? now give me 9 billion dollars and I'll show you how too do it to!!" it was such a blessing to see how to do armature and how to start my scupture, I'm a grand mother of two, my daughter works from sun up to sun down and I take care of the children, helping to raise them to and kids cost money, so I can't afford to go willy nilly spending, I saw these videos and wanted to cry because I was finally going to be able to learn to do this correctly without things falling apart or wondering why this or why that, *hugs* you rock!! Blessed Be Dana

Thank you for the tut. I made a tool for the nails with a small piece of tubing. I filed it at an angle and it works well--don't know if what I said makes sense LOL

These are some great vids! I have a question. How would I check for air inside my sculpture?

I really learned a lot from your videos. They are great! Do you have any problems with air getting trapped between the pieces of clay shaped like the muscles? I also coat my wire with a thin layer of clay, but I bake it, leaving the joints open. Then I do a thin coating of liquid clay between the baked clay and the new clay. I really enjoy watching you make the shapes of the muscles.

Great lessons! Where can I find that thumb tool "spoon"? If you made it, how? Is there a tool list for these lessons. Thanks!

Great videos. Would love to see a remake of them in 1080p with a proper camera set up, even if you made them paid.

Great job!! thank you for the videos, i know that it's not easy to make a video and do a clay figure, and it's possible that you and your students won't record new videos, but i can't see the details of the process and may be some step are not trivial. =)!!

Hello JC quick question where did you get the cherry color wood spoon tool?
@JCCappelletti
@JCCappelletti 9 жыл бұрын
Oh, you mean my best tool ever? I made that by carving a chunk of solid Formica from an old counter top. It was a trick I learned from a Pro sculptor that I apprenticed with many years ago. I've been promising to do more tool making videos, and I will get around to it. The basic idea can be made from wood also, but as you can see in that tool, there is no wood grain and it's very smooth. If you can find a very hard wood it should work just as well. Just carve and sand, then sand some more. I worked all the way up to 1600 grit sandpaper that you sand with a bit of water for that ultra smooth polish. It's been my go-to tool for more than 15 years.

my biggest issue is connecting the hands after, any process you could recommend to help me attach them without smashing them? i tried what you do but i have rather large meaty hands, so its a little more difficult than it seems lol
@JCCappelletti

i usually make hands with a bit of extra clay going past the wrist, especially with this scale. Then I can merge the wrist with the arm without damaging the hands. Think of it like keeping a tab of clay for you to hold onto, that you won't mind if it gets a little smushed or even removed when you join to the main body. I'm pretty sure it's in one of these videos. Another trick is to wait a while after making a hand to let the clay cool a bit. Even a slight temperature change can help you avoid smashing the clay when joining parts.

JC Cappelletti much appreciated, also, something i found really helpful for softening up the firm sculpey you might be interested in since you seem to use it as much as i do, i generally work with a small personal heater (one of the little 10$ box heater fans from walmart) when i use FIRM sculpey, i keep the fan off so it just radiates heat, and i just set the block in a close proximity, the entire outside of the block becomes pliable without having to worry about cutting off hard chunks with a razor and accidentally getting your hand.

lori scott - quick answer= different clays. Thicker wire. I don’t do much large work. Terracotta is great for big. Otherwise chavant or j-mac oil based clays. Much cheaper per pound and reusable.
