It's nice seeing people out enjoying the trails in stock or mostly stock rigs. Lifts, large tires, bumpers, armor, etc. not only cost huge, but add lots of weight. These people seldom could make it out with us plain truck people because their rigs were in the driveway "being upgraded" (broken).
@audiovisualautos4453 ай бұрын
Couldn’t agree more. There’s usually more money to spend toward adventuring when you have something reliable and stock. The only thing that was different on the ‘86 was the tires. 31” vs 28.5” stock. That thing went anywhere.

Out of curiosity, how much does it weigh? The usual figures online seem overwhelmingly heavy for its size...
@audiovisualautos4454 ай бұрын
I think the closest number I found was around 3400lbs. It really was a pretty light truck. It was the front diff/drivetrain which was the real extra weight

Can i ask you what is the pressure in your tires when go offroading ? It obvious it is over 25 psi try to lower the pressure from 14 to 16 it is a huge different in offroading.

I have a 1990 22R, 4 speed manual and no overdrive. It’s still adequate enough to keep up with modern traffic, even when carrying 1000lbs in the bed.
@audiovisualautos445 Жыл бұрын
People talk down on trucks like this cause of power. To me, it just says that they’re incompetent drivers who don’t know how to plan ahead when they drive. 22Rs have enough power in my mind.

@@audiovisualautos445 If I was going to get a new truck today, I’d get the Tacoma with the 2.7L. Most likely a 2017 or prior one so I can get it with the manual. Anyway, every video I see (and people I’ve talked to that have the 2.7) all say how slow it is. I keep thinking that surely it can’t be slower than my 1990…. I can’t tell if it’s truly slow or just “slow” to them.

I love the Columbia river gorge. went there twice when i visited Oregon because i loved it so much. spent more time hiking there than i did visiting Portland. I also love old Toyota 4x4s. My dad had a 89 22RE pickup that still runs to this day with 380k on the original engine. I just bought a 98 4runner SR5, i can't wait to take up to the gorge when i drive back to Oregon next year.
