Once again I learned something new today, thanks to you. I was under the impression that any tables extending other tables were exempt... and only tables created from scratch were counted as a custom table. As I just finished a story that required me to extend a table not listed in the video - or in your comment - I will make sure to check how many custom tables we currently have and how many we're allowed to have. Thanks again!!

Nice article. Having a doubt here. If we create a custom table by extending an out of box table. Do we still call it as a custom table?
@Allenovation
@Allenovation 2 күн бұрын
Hi. If you create a custom table and extend one of the tables shown in the video in the exempt list (or look in the description of the video for a link to the Custom Table Guide - which has that same exempt list on it), then it’s NOT a custom table. It’ll be exempt. If you create a custom table but extend the out of box Task, or Incident, or something like that, then yes, it’s considered custom and counts.

Not table related but I created custom ACL rules for a manager who asked her employees have access to certain items, turns out she was trying to circumvent granting them licenses and at the time I didn’t know any better. Thankfully our architect caught it and we cleared them, but I had wondered what would have happened had ServiceNow caught on.
@Allenovation
@Allenovation 3 күн бұрын
That's a great lesson as well and definitely one that we still come across today. There's talk that "read" access...is "fine" to open up, but when it becomes an issue is when users are becoming "fulfillers" (working the records/being assigned the records), then that tends to be where people try to circumvent things. ServiceNow has specific audits they run for that that don't just look for the literal "itil" type role (for example), but they look at access, what roles are associated with that, who has it, and why. Discussions will come about and you'll either have to increase your fulfiller licenses or change the approach. What I've found that works for me is any time I have a question or am doubtful about a requirement like that...just speak to the account rep.

A few other things to mention: 1) Be aware of field inheritance that occurs when you create a custom table that extends another table. So example, when creating a custom table and you elect to extend from the Task table, your new table starts out with those required fields (as shown in the video), plus all Task fields. This is because your new table is considered a "child" to the Task "parent" table. More documentation about this located here: docs.servicenow.com/csh?topicname=table-extension-and-classes.html&version=latest 2) There are other types of tables that are exempt that I forgot to mention in the video and they are: Many to Many, Remote, Archive, Rotated Table Shards, Document tables. More information can be found in the "Custom Table Guide" link page 3.

With a good release testing process and good governance of the dev environment, there is no need to clone prod to dev. Prod to QA, yes, but no need to clone to dev.
@Allenovation
@Allenovation 22 күн бұрын
Hi. Cloning Prod to Dev isn’t just for syncing development. It’s also to sync data, such as groups and other records, as applicable. These may have been created manually or by another process such as LDAP. Instead of exporting and importing, cloning would be much more efficient. In any case, I appreciate your input and thank you for commenting!
@OneAndOnlyMe
@OneAndOnlyMe 22 күн бұрын
@@Allenovation Dev should not have production records, instead there should be production like data in dev for unit testing, etc. Any dependencies on SYS_IDs should be migrated to using constants in a script class. Even for LDAP I would only sync a sub scope of the developers and for SSO, for example.
@Allenovation
@Allenovation 22 күн бұрын
No Prod data at all in Dev may be what you’re used to, which is completely understandable as each organization has their own governance and processes. For the group sys_id, yes, when scripting you wouldn’t hardcode it, when using no-code/low-code, which would be preferred if the option is available for the use case, the record would need to be there. And instead of exporting and importing, cloning Prod (and this is for far more data than just groups), would be the most efficient. I believe I saw UK in your name somewhere? For our friends overseas and across Europe, yes, you all have different regulations that may cause the normal cloning process to skip Dev. For Americas, at least, it’s common to clone Prod to Dev and use excludes and preservers as needed. Although some do skip Dev here as well, so it all depends on the environment. Take care!

Thank you for the great video! I will be watching more. You're welcome and I'm glad you found it helpful. I definitely have several other videos as well that I think you'll like. One related to what to know as a new CSA, and then one of my latest videos related to 10 secrets to know after obtaining your CSA to become a top-tier admin. For your question related to CAD and the voucher, I don't necessarily think everyone should go that route after CSA as CAD helps you learn custom applications, but core SN knowledge may be more beneficial and with that, I'd say consider the ITSM Implementation Specialist cert. For CAD though, you would only need to take the "Application Development Fundamentals" course, whether on demand or instructor let. Here's the on demand link: nowlearning.servicenow.com/lxp/en/now-platform/application-development-fundamentals-on-demand?id=learning_course_prev&course_id=1dc30bf6c3a2b914cfdf34ee050131b9

Great tips. I discovered Subscription Management just 1 month before this video. There is a list of paid roles which are marked as a Fulfiller , in our CSM v5 we have around 212. But it’s not clear does “admin” paid ? As it’s not listed but as we all know it contains a bunch of roles. 2. I have a Fulfiller (paid) role listed, my users don’t have it directly but I surprisely found that it included into snc_internal role lol. So each my Fulfiller now counts as paid?(it’s included ootb )
@Allenovation
@Allenovation Ай бұрын
Hi! I’ll first say that you definitely speak to your or your clients SN Account Executive for the most accurate and up to date answers. However, to give you some guidance, Admins do usually consume a fulfiller license because of their access on the platform. They don’t count 10 times for just the 1 admin, it’s 1 charge for each admin. For your other question, if fulfiller roles are nested within your snc_internal role, which means basically everyone gets that role out of box, then you may be under a license model that it per user, versus per role…or….someone on added this fulfiller role to the snc_internal role when they shouldn’t have. Again, you’ll want to check with your SN Account Executive for the best answer. I hope this helps! 😊

Hi. In the current state, I would not say the ServiceNow job market is "hot" for those with minimal experience. It's quite competitive as RiseUp/NextGen and other individuals who happen to land in the ServiceNow ecosystem are all hoping to land their first job. Overall, for ServiceNow, the market is still hot, but obviously companies would prefer more experienced talent. This is why it's extremely important to really differentiate yourself and if you can't somehow grab more real-world ServiceNow experience, then you need to do other things (like pursuing additional certs i.e., CIS-ITSM, micro-certs, engaging with the SN Community, practicing what you're learning in your PDI, etc.).

Thank you - this is solid advice and should all be considered for the official documentation. I can understand data protection as a feature, but there are situations where the platform needs to do better with update set management. Example: deleting certain tables (especially tables extended from core tables) can leave “residue” in system tables which not even an admin can clean up. I would like to see this rectified, as it is a blemish on an otherwise great platform.
