What? You don't think you can drown zombies in this game? If they patched the game and changed it, then I'm wrong, but that is a feature that is STAPLED into my brain. Again I could be wrong, but I would bet money that you can drown zombies in Dead Island.

Awesome game, i would play it again but im goimg to play the first one first.

The whole rant about the guns towards the end fails to account for sh/tters like me who are way too afraid of letting the infected close enough to hit them with a melee. And then have to fumble for 3 straight seconds when there's a special infected on the horizon requiring to switch to a firearm I also don't really like any gun other than shotguns, which kind of negates the whole point of all those guns scattered around because unless they're a shotgun, I don't care lol

3 years late but i'm so glad you pointed out how unusually good the animated intro is for how bad the rest of the game is. It has the perfect sense of tragedy i don't see in a lot of zombie media nowadays - the loss of humanity in a time and place supposed to be full of joy and people. Unironically one of the better intros to a zombie game.

The fact that it's set in the UK and you're using guns 99% of the time is dumb. Guns are ludicrously hard to come by here, you're not gonna open a random's fridge and see an AK47 with 10,000 bullets most of the time. For a zombie game in the UK to work, it would just need to be British Dead Rising

Personally i think if it was its own game not a part of the dead rising series it would be ok or mediocre like play it for a little bit just slashing zombies trying to get the highest combo but its just does to many non dead rising things to be dead rising and i would just be beating a dead horse talking about the story

About dead rising being… dead we just got shown a dead rising remaster/remake so there is some hope but Franks classic voice actor is not coming back unfortunately but I guess it makes sense since it’s a young frank west.

two of my favorite details with the Hunter and Charger specifically are 2 of their Alt Animations, sometimes when being shoved off Hunters will Backflip instead of stumbling and Chargers when having a roof above them while slamming a survivor will throw the survivor upward batting them into the ceiling

This game made me appreciate the normal EDFs so much more. Because it looks like a very simple game with crude graphics and gameplay but every time a different studio tried to make a EDF game they fail horribly. The graphics on this one are great but everything else is just terrible the guns, classes everything is so unsatisfying

Good review. What really annoyed me was the chasm between easy and medium difficulty. A balance between those two and I'd have felt more forgiving to its shortcomings.

Fun fact: plans for a Dead Rising 5 was in development by CAPCOM VANCOUVER, but it would’ve been a midquel, where we would’ve been reunited with Chuck Green and Katy, where they would’ve gone to Mexico. However, the game was cancelled due to CV shutting down but there are gameplay on what the game could’ve looked like. Just thought I’d bring this up. (And now we’re getting a remake of the first game)

The one clip of my impersonating Dr. Mengel doesn't do it justice. I was doing this nearly every time we played. I started doing it more often as we quickly decided that the actual game isn't great, and the impersonation was a distraction from actually playing the game.

Honestly, I got as far as the first scorpion level and gave up on Iron Rain. Tried going back a few weeks later and it still didn't sit with me. I got so fed up I bought EDF 2017 for Xbox 360 and had a much better time with that.

Stuff like dying from far up safe zones, or how much they hide your hud becomes non existent after playing the game for a while, your muscle memory will always know what you have equipped, same thing for when parts of the story take your inventory, i get that everyone’s first time trying to get your stuff back it’s a hassle, but after some time you know exactly what you had and where it’s located in your stash, even if you have a lot of weapons in there

I do not like the smaller enemy count compared to EDF5 and the fact they compensate for this by giving enemies bloated HP. It's got a good OST though.
