You bring back so many memories of the Vietnam years. I was a young Air Force wife at the time. I lost 2 friends. It was a terrible time.

Several years of intensive independent research has suggested, to me, that Margaret Fuller was a literary and intellctual imposter. Specifically, she falsely claimed authorship of the reviews signed "F." in "The Dial," and the "star"-signed reviews, essays and reports in the 1844-46 New York "Tribune." She was only the editor in both cases--the real author, I have concluded, was Mathew Franklin Whittier, the younger brother of poet John Greenleaf Whittier. In my opinion, Fuller plagiarized eleven of Mathew's pieces in her 1846 compilation, "Papers On Literature and Art."

Jane - Bravo for bringing the history of Edith Guerieer, Edith Brown, and Helen Storrow to a new audience. These women made a big difference to many young immigrant women who went on to expand their lives. Kudos to your husband's support.

I loved this book. I lived in northern rural Maine for 3 years- on the Kennebec River! Actually further north- Hinckley Me- I could relate to so much. And midwifery and the 1700s...so much. great story.

Enjoyed the book, but I found an error. At some point, you compared someone to a woman from a Pre-Raphaelite painting. You said something about seeing these paintings in a book of Italian art. Look up the Pre-Raphaelites and you will see the time and place mistakes.

I really enjoyed your interview. I facilitate a book club and this is the book we will be reading. I do research into the factual parts of it and this interview has really shared some light on that, so have shared it with my book club participants. I love the way you interview and the questions that you ask. Thank you.

Thank you for this interview! I just finished listening to The Witch of Tin Mountain on Audible. I love this book for so many reason. Historical fiction is my favorite genre. My maternal grandmother and her family are from Oklahoma and Arkansas. I love a good witchy story. And I’m very interested in natural healing. Now that I’ve listened to the story, I’ll be ordering the book so I can savor, take notes and study it! I’m reading Parting the Veil next!

Ahh, I heard about this book through A Mighty Blaze but didn't realize the gist of the story--sounds so good! Kind of like a Susanna Kearsley supernatural tinge and women's fiction for the realness of emotional stakes. UGH YES

I had just finished reading this novel before finding this interview. I really loved it. Was excited to learn of a historical fiction book from women's perspective since my maternal grandmom entered the USA from Hungary in 1913 with a female cousin (both alone, age 19). This story exposed some dangers that could beset young women. Also, have visited Ellis Island twice so the author's descriptions were awesome. Recommend a good read.

I really learned a lot about the war in the Philippines by reading this book. The two main characters, Tess and Flor, and their sisterhood of nurses engaged my interest in how they survived while striving to serve the troops. Thank you for the interesting interview which covered the background research and writing process. I hope to recommend this book to my book club and others.
