Man, great find. A word of advice - when you grab these from dumpsters, you should probably open them outside. Last thing you need is a nest of tiny roaches running out and breeding in your house. That happened to a guy who used to mod Xbox consoles.
@LowSpecActionSquadКүн бұрын
@@gregghernandez2714 I had that happen one time when I bought a game boy on eBay lol, and they also found a bunch of dead roaches in a Texas Instruments TI99/4A computer from the '70s. @@LowSpecActionSquad Yeah, the guy who taught me how to Mod Xboxes told me that story. After that, whenever I bought an Xbox (I bought and modded about 9 of them), I would keep it in my driveway, then run inside and go and get my trusty Saran Wrap or a good plastic garbage bag that I knew had no holes in it. I would then wrap it really tight, put some masking tape on it, then leave it in the garage for at least a week. That way, anything that was inside would not survive. His story scared the hell out me. BTW that is one nasty looking aluminum heat sink. Looks like a job for Simple green.

The Legendary Mechwarriors forcepacks contain several variations of mechs so for example, you're holding the CGR-3K at 22:27 and it doesn't have 5 small lasers. The Caesar you were holding before then (with the hand-held clan PPC) is a custom version piloted by Marcus GioAvanti. The standard Caesar (in the Merc box set) doesn't have a handheld PPC and has less pulse lasers.

@@djpiles1982 almost, It was limited to 2 gigs of RAM, although there are ways to get around it. Windows 98 is kind of a mess when you start throwing it at high-end hardware. @@chaos1291975 I hate to admit this but I mostly learned from trial by fire. I've always had to repurpose old PCs, not just for fun but for my actual computer as well, and I've accidentally killed more than my fair share of computers. Whether by installing a capacitor backwards, forgetting to change the jumper settings for CPU voltage, or full sending it with bulging capacitors. I've also once forgotten to change the power supply input voltage settings from 115 to 230 before I plugged it into a 220 outlet. There's a lot of good resources on KZfaq, so although I have ruined a lot of hardware, I've learned every step of the way how to not do that again

After watching both videos, I think you should verify HDD performance with a disk benchmark like Atto, and memory performance with Sisoft Sandra. It just feels odd that the CPU upgrade made such a big difference. Did you check the ATA mode on the controller?
@LowSpecActionSquad6 күн бұрын
@@looks-suspicious 100%, that was the only reason I even made a second video because it just felt so wrong. I know 1.8 isn't very fast, but it still should have been absolutely crushing it. An 800 MHz boost shouldn't have doubled or tripled the performance... That's why I kind of think there was an i/o problem with the old CPUs. I actually didn't check the ATA mode on the controller, but it shouldn't have changed with just a CPU swap, and if the mode was incorrect (which is absolutely still possible) I think it still should have been pretty slow, at least for load times. Good suggestion though, I'll write those down on my list of things to do for this tower
