Very valid, and very relatable. My second bedroom is floor to ceiling parts. Realistically, it's the cases that are the largest space hog, followed by power supplies and optical drives. Ram, CPUs, and add-in cards are the easiest to store. Hard drives are not too bad, but those do tend to get heavy when you have as many as I do. As for the "just sitting around" part, well, it really comes down to how you look at the whole concept of vintage computers. If you are in it to play with them, having spare parts on hand is very useful. If you are in it for a profit, well, saving them for when prices go up (as we are seeing with PIII and P4 systems now) can also be a big incentive. Mostly though, it's about preservation. If you don't have enough space to KEEP the random systems you find in the trash or on facebook marketplace for $5, you can always re-home them to someone who does have the space, usually for a small profit as well There are a finite amount of these old parts, and the more we can save for future generations, the better.
