In 2013 the trunk lid of my husband's car came down and hit me in the forehead. Yes I understand wanting to throw up from the pain. I did go to ER. I had a concussion. Wish I had known about comfrey back then. Feel better soon!

Last Summer I dropped a stepstone on my bare toe. I was sure it was crushed. Hurt really bad. I wrapped it in a comfrey leaf and took a nap. 2 hours later I woke up to hardly any pain. Then the next day my church prayed for healing. By the end of the service no more pain or restriction on movement. God is Good.

When I dry catnip I tend to use it in tea... but you could definitely powder it and add it to seasoning blends, or even drop it that way into your smoothies. Fresh is always best for your produce, but if dried properly there is no reason not to keep using your catnip all year round.
@jerrycash5606Ай бұрын
The blooms on my wife's irises are gone as of last week. Never thought to put catnip in a salad or smoothie. I just give it to my cats.
@SodaFarmАй бұрын
Totally common reaction! So many people are surprised when I suggest they eat their catnip. It can have a strong flavor in food that you've got to balance (although as a tea it's lovely no matter what you do), but it is one of the BEST ways to feel calm and serene. Irises are one of my favorites. I've still got maybe a week of bloom out here I hope. We keep bringing them inside the house. This is probably one of the best iris years we've had!
@mwolfe7883Ай бұрын
So my kiddos like to just go out and pick and eat it from our yard.
@SodaFarmАй бұрын
that's perfect! Red clover is one of my favorites for when I feel snacky and I'm out working... but don't feel like walking all the way back into the house to get something.
@mwolfe7883Ай бұрын
Do you just hand weed out all the grass? Mine look like that as well.
@SodaFarmАй бұрын
Yes... I need to. It's more difficult to keep grass out of the irises once it gets in there because the roots hide under the iris and you can't get to all of them. Unfortunately, unless I dig all these iris and put them into a new bed it's a battle I'll just have to face every year.

It is always about what is easy and taking the vitamins is the easy way to feel you are getting the correct amount. It would be great to be able to ween off them.
@SodaFarmАй бұрын
The numbers are skewed... the amount we are supposed to take has to be so high because we have isolated them out of plants OR synthesized them... we need to take much more in supplement form than we would need to get from food because the body only minimally assimilates the isolate... it doesn't make sense to our systems like the nutrition that is still intact in the original system where it was embedded. On the whole, I don't pay attention to RDA. If there is a health issue that requires more of a nutrient, I simply heavily load the menu with foods that deliver. I think this thinking is VERY hard to put out into our medicalized society though... we have all become so accustomed to thinking about isolating one or two "important" compounds out of our medicinal plants and food... and therefore need guidance about how much and how often.

Would this be good for back pain from fractures in vertebrae
@SodaFarmАй бұрын
Yes, it could definitely be a good thing to try. But you may also take a look at St. John's Wort oil. It has a long reputation of being helpful wherever nerve endings have been injured. It's great to relieve pain and inflammation in those areas. I would most likely try both and work to increase bone building nutrition.
@essentialcomforts2166Ай бұрын
My daughter's jaw "goes out" and gets painful when she eats and then she has to stop eating. I dont know yet if it is too big, in a bad location, or what but do you think a comfrey salve could help that pain or the bone? I'm thinking about making one but not sure if the ground powder or an oil infusion would be best strength, plus I dont want to stain her face.
@SodaFarmАй бұрын
Hmm... I'm not sure I love it in that situation. Matthew Wood talks about comfrey causing "calluses" on bone. I like it for bruising and for healing broken bones, but here I think I would reach for boneset for deep bone pain. I would infuse in an oil if I were you and apply topically. BUT I think the first recommendation that comes to mind is to look into a good chiropractor. Sounds like a misalignment to me (often starting in the hips). Look for someone who is also trained in cranial sacral that could adjust the plates in the head and face. I have had personal experience with these things being out of whack and causing jaw pain, misalignment, clicking, etc. Good luck!!

Does sugar makes it more stickier? Then water dilutes it? It would be awesome if you could explain this. I tried without water and sugar and it’s not sticky enough. With your recipe it didn’t work and dripped after a day .

Yeah, quite honestly, I’ve had this comment a lot. I made this video long enough ago that I can’t tell you why… but the logic doesn’t look as right all these years later. This video is something that I’m going to have to revisit and experiment with dilutions to see if it is necessary.

I would assume they’ve been doing it just like us. We’ve been doing value adds with an umbrella liability policy attached to our farm policy for 20 years. This is a new interpretation and I am anxious to hear if they’re seeing the same ramifications!

Just curious. Do you know how others, like Michael Kilpatrick in OH, Salatin in VA & J. Moody in KY are doing it? There's got to be a way that doesn't break the bank, right?! I'm shopping around for insurance right now, & have been thinking about value-added farmstead products to add some income. I'm guessing Amish don't carry insurance. They have their community.

I wish I had already seen your video before I tried one on myself! Very jnformative. I watched another video and followed the recipe and instructions to a T and now have a very itchy red burn on my chest. I put olive oil on my skin first, as they said, but her recipe used a 1:1 ratio of mustard and flour, where I'm now seeing is VERY strong! So what is the best thing to do to take away the itch and the redness? Very uncomfortable, and I'm not finding any info out there on what to do in the event of a mustard plaster burn.Thank you!
@SodaFarm2 ай бұрын
Oh- I'm so sorry that happened to you... and that I didn't see this any sooner!! BUT, right now in Ohio our chickweed is up and ready to harvest. If you have access to some, let it wilt and then infuse it into some oil. It is one of the best oils to use on angry skin. The next best would be comfrey in my opinion.
@mmedunlop6 ай бұрын
Just curious, why is it best to put the plaster on the back rather than the chest?
@SodaFarm2 ай бұрын
Vicks did a number on us with their ad campaigns. All of those commercials had us putting the rub on the chest- mainly because Vicks really has only one game- mentholation. You can put something mentholated on the chest for the vapors to reach the nose and help with head congestion. For lung congestion, traditional medicine always placed compresses on the back. Truthfully, the lungs are located equally between back and front in the body, but there are some structures that are closer to the back. Most lung pain will also express as back pain... so following those things, it seems logical to continue to follow tradition and place compresses on the back.

20 years ago I fell down a flight of stairs and broke my knee and wrist, and tore all the ligaments and tendons in my foot. I move back to Canada the week after, and for the past 20 years I have limped and suffered with pain as the medical care here is very poor. The past 6 months my foot almost stopped working…I couldn’t weight bear the pain was so intense. I discovered comfrey, and have made some salve which as not only helped me, but my 88 year old mother who could barely use her right arm after a shoulder injury 3 years ago is happy and the pain has lessened so dramatically in the last 4 days she is a new person! Wow! I am so impressed.

Can i put the mustard mixture directly on my skin? Mine doesn't seem to get warm, maybe because my mustard powder is almost expired?
@SodaFarm8 ай бұрын
I wou;dn't put it on your skin as it will definitely cause a burn if given the opportunity. It might not be heating up if it is too old. Are you putting it on warm, covering with plastic wrap and a heating pad? If you're doing all that... try to cut it with less flour- then if that doesn't work you might need to buy new mustard powder.
