Most important fact missed: the entombed do not sleep. Ever. They can be put into stasis, which grants tham some respite, but, ultimately, because they cannot enter a true sleep state, their minds begin to unravel, which usually manifests as the inability to distinguish between memory and present day. A slow, inevitable, descent into madness. Only the modification that enables a Marine to enter a waking sleep state makes it possible for the entombed to function (unenhanced humans go completely insane after about 7 days of no sleep). The chapter's Tech Marines will prefer to keep even the most strong willed of entombed in stasis, to maximise their useful lifetime. Bjorn the Fell-handed is an example of the tiny number of truly exceptional individuals, who are able to remain out of stasis for extended periods, even when there is no need for deployment.
@Makorze8 сағат бұрын
That isnt entirely true. "Sleep" is very different for Space Marines as they can rest different areas of the brain in sequence so can stay awake for months without needing actual sleep. Ofc depending on a Marines injures they might lose both this ability and the ability to put themselves into the suspended animation. The reason statis fields are used is both to compensate for Marines who can't sleep and to stop them aging (as wounded marines can't regenerate depending on how badly compromised thier bodies are.)
@edwardcullen1739Минут бұрын
@@Makorze The ability to shut down parts of the brain and not sleep for months at a time is precisely the modification I am talking about. It is a brain implant, so they would only "lose" it if they had severe brain damage, which would render them unsuitable for interment. It is explicitly stated that this ability is not a substitute for proper sleep - in your own words, a Marine can go without sleep for months, not indefinitely. It is canonical that interred Marines do not sleep - that becoming a dreadnought is something like a waking nightmare (and not every _physically_ suitable candidate survives the process with their mind intact). Just another reason that dreadnoughts are so respected within the chapter.

Correct, the strain the machine spirit puts on the marine is much greater than any other. To the point where the Marine can actually go crazy and start firing on allies and enemy alike.

Awesome, had it been true. But it's not even remotely true. The whole pre-heresy Alpha legion as well as the curent era Raven guard and all of their successor chapters would disagree, as would all space marine scouts. The notion of "not using camoflage" is just patently untrue.
@MrGuy1255 күн бұрын
I imagine the actual reason that doesn’t involve imperial brainwashing is that your gonna see a big blue guy and instinctually shoot at him instead of the guardsmen. Space marines are great distractions that also happen to be good at killing things

It does though? All of the Eldar know fear, and so do human chaps followers. Orks do know fear too, and the Tyranids are basically wild animals if the hive mind is cut off. The most common enemy the imperium encounters is fellow humans, and the Eldar of both types are rare, the hive fleets aren't all over the galaxy and the necrons are still awakening

Vague spoilers* I wish they didn’t give little breadcrumbs he could come back. It kind of makes primarchs deaths meaningless since each of them have a hint as to coming back. Kurze has the soul gem thing (haven’t read the book so i don’t have good details to share) sanguinius has the sangiunor, Ferris has the ghost legion thing and the perfect clones fulgrim uses, and now there’s the tiny bit for Horus from the end and the death. I’m not going to say it wouldn’t be cool if it was executed properly (and if the big E was alive and kicking it would make total sense in lore he could do it) but overall it’s nowhere near as impactful if death isn’t “death” for them.
