I remember wanting a netbook so badly back in the day. They were a lot more portable than the behemoths we had as laptops back then. Plus they were cheaper. I remember having an eye on a netbook from a company called System76 for the longest time. It had Ubuntu pre-installed on it. I never ended up pulling the trigger though!

You caught me! Linux user here! I'd recommend MX Linux for older and extremely underpowered computers.

My cousin had an acer aspire and I remember wanting one soooo bad. I didn’t have a laptop back then. I had a PC. Imagine being in college, ipad is still a luxury to have and not very compatible with a lot of things, android is still sht, iphones cost a fortune, the smartest thing you have on your pocket is a symbian phone from nokia. Life would’ve been easier than having to bring your reports on a flashdrive and pray that one of your classmates or your professor had a laptop (they had but not everyone brings theirs everyday because they are soo massive then).

Honestly this phone probably isn’t much better spec wise to my old 1st gen kindle fire and I absolutely loved that thing… until the screen grenaded itself for no particular reason.

I love the netbook form factor! Bought an MSI Wind back around 2010. Upgraded the RAM to 2GB and it actually worked rather well for basic stuff. When it died of old age - the plastic literally broke to pieces - I replaced it with a Lenovo 11e which had a quad core AMD with 4GB RAM. That machine is a TANK which still works perfectly fine other than being terribly outdated. After 5 years or so I replaced with a newer 11e 2-in-1 with an Intel M series, and 8GB of ram. Unfortunately that machine is glitchy and gets stuck in low power mode. Seems to be a problem with the newer 11e generations. I think the key is to manage expectations. To me these were cheap beater laptops I could take on the go without concern. If I dropped one and broke it oh well. My son was issued a small 2-in-1 chromebook by his school that looks pretty much identical to the 11e and is for using the school's google docs on it. Even his textbooks are on it. No more textbooks, just a touchscreen laptop; I'm jealous!

1:00 That series of hp pavillion was very unreliable. I'd be surprised if your works. The gpu comes loose because the cooling solution is poor resulting in a dead laptop or maximum 16 color 640x480 vga display. There were a LOT of warrantry claims where it would be fixed and fail again somtimes even before the next 1 year was up. The model series with that problem are DV2000 and DV6000 but there could be more. When working they actually run XP and Win7 pretty well with 4 gigs of ram.

These netbooks aren't actually that bad - Windows is. Run Linux and they will be sooo much faster. Linux takes just 200MB Ram.
