Modern day smartphones have tiny bezels, but where did this trend start from? Today we are looking at the Sharp Aquos Crystal released in 2014, the pioneer of the bezel-less smartphone! (Except it is actually a Sharp Aquos Crystal 2 from 2015)

The motorized selfie camera is the peak of bezel-less phones for me as I barely take selfies anyway. I have a OnePlus 7 Pro and it can still keep up with current flagships in terms of design. The full screen front really looks more futuristic than some phone with a hole punch.

I never heard first iPhone in 2007. But i found secret known as The LG Prada (LG KE850) was the first smartphone with a capacitive touchscreen made by LG Electronics and designed by Prada was released in January or May 2007. I love how people call iphone's screen "symmetrical" and bazel-less even though there is a huge damn "notch" or "island" on top of it and at the same time dismissively look at android phones "chin" and hole punch and call it "asymmetrical", "bezels are not even" even though chin's are much thinner and hole punches are much smaller. Kinda ridiculous.

Funny how iPhone 3GS' side bezes are smaller than iPhone 12's side bezels. MKBHD showed this phone back in the day. It was modern looking then, like now. Looks better than any of the new "bezel-less" phones of today (aside of the curved displays which are dying now). Sharp should make a new one with camera punch hole and bezel-less on all 4 sides. I'll buy that.
@BltchErica
@BltchErica 3 ай бұрын
Respectfully, you're tweaking. I just looked at the iPhone 3GS' side bezels and they are about the same as the 12's side bezels, maybe larger in fact. It definitely doesn't look better, it looks old and chunky. The reason iPhones don't have bezels as thin as the Sharp Aquos Crystal is because it's very difficult to make the bottom chin smaller, and Apple doesn't want to have a bigger chin, which I respect. Phones with bigger chins (like 99% of Androids do) have no excuse to not have bezels as small as the Sharp Aquos Crystal though. If your device has a bigger chin, you might as well remove the other bezels for a futuristic look, since the design is already non-uniform.

Still to this day I remember the S8 when it was announced, it was the first time I'd had that "wow I really want to go out and buy one of these" from an advertisement, just the look of the S8 is still gorgeous, I still have my S8+ in a draw, beautiful phone

Hey frok, you should also check out the motorized cameras on the Oppo N1, N1 mini and N3 from 2013, they make the Find X look conservative in comparison. And yes, I do remember this phone because I lusted after one (of course), but since it's a Sharp never came out where I live and I wasn't about to go through the whole rigmarole of paying extra and getting it working on my country's networks, especially since it was just a mid-range phone at the time as well.

Palm was rounding the edges of its display openings back in, like, 2009/2010. The display itself still had corners because display technology hadn't developed to have clipped corners just yet, but they thought that the rounded screen edges presented a friendlier appearance. Personally, I still prefer phones that have top and bottom bezels because I dislike relying on accidental touch rejection when I'm trying to pick up the device. My Sony Xperia 1 IV and Samsung Galaxy Note 9 have my preferred amount of top and bottom bezel. Just enough to grip, but not so large that it makes the phone cumbersome.

This phone was on my radar, but what killed it was the removal of the top bezel also removed the left speaker in portrait mode. I heard an in-display speaker in person once (I want to say it was ZTE - also a defunct company), it is not even close to the same. I applaud them for trying things but I understand why it didn't work. To call it bezel-less then have a giant bezel on the bottom, a notch in top, even slightly asymmetrical bezels on any side just made it obvious it's not bezel-less. Thus the trend failed.

Wow I actually used this phone back then in 2018. Got it for very cheap like 45 usd for bundle with other phone SH-02H and 303SH still carrier locked. You should try to get earlier sharp phone model like 203SH and 302SH too, I think both of them look stunning for a phones that came in 2012/2013.
