I'm really looking forward to seeing the new plot in full bloom... and the before and after shots (which I'm sure will be amazing!). I did some weeding today and I can give you some (really pretty obvious advice to smart people)... don't do chop and drop with rose bushes. I thought it would be all nice to just drop the cut pieces into the garden bed... let them rot down. They don't rot down that quickly and I forget they are there... when grabbing at some weeds to pull out... thorns can be quite nasty! I'm sure you're smart enough to avoid that... it's just nonces like me who make that mistake. I think your cardboard covering is very similar to the way many people do it which is cover the whole area then cut hole into the cardboard and plant through that... should be about the same result... it looks lovely either way. A quick search for owl names suggested "Owl Pacino" which I quite like ;)

Have you tried local honey for your hay fever? I have eaten some from some locally and its really helped me, not sure if its a placebo tbh lol, but I do feel a lot better in the sunny days and not so sniffily.

It’s such a joy to harvest your own bouquets and bunches of flowers are extortionate at the moment to buy anyway .. so a fab idea.

Great progress Emma .Do you really need edging on the flower beds ? Just add handfuls of chicken pellets to the beds and when you plant out plant the seedlings with a handful of multi purpose each .Much cheaper than covering the whole beds .I grow on rock hard clay and it's amazing how fast the soil loosens up using this method after a year or so 🙂

While preparing garden beds for next year, look into 6x fibrous manure. I can't articulate just how good it is.

That Echinacea looks very strong, lovely thick stems. I've actually got some Delphinium seeds in front of me here "Pacific Giants" apparently... I think it's too cold here for me to try starting them yet... but I do look forward to them adding some more height around the garden. Quick question re the blood donation... what's it like after donating ie can you drive home etc? I'm open to donating but a bit nervy about it (I was excluded from being able to for a long time as we spent a year in England in 1982 when the creutzfeldt-jakob disease was about... but that restriction has been lifted now).

You could have done white chocolate and raspberry :D Apparently there's a thing called "weaponised incompetence"... I suspect that's a bit harsh... I think the trick is, as a couple you figure out what each of your strengths are and work with those. I'm a terrible do nothing person... well... mostly. I'm a full time carer for my wife and stay at home dad for my children so there's making sure they are all doing ok... making dinner and trying to make the garden look nice and be productive (that's new to me... I've only really been getting into it over the last three or four years). Occasionally I get inspired and do projects (and often don't finish them). I have a home made arcade machine (emulator powered)... that's basically complete though it would be nice to have a flashy marquee thingie on the top. I have a 3D printer I designed which is close to finished but needs some work. I have the projector which is also close to finished (at least this version... might need to upgrade to proper 4K... it's only 2K and needs to be run through a PC to turn the screen the right way around)... other bits and pieces... my sound booth needs work too.

Love the RGB Ears on the headphones :D I do a similar but lazy version of that crumble... I cut up the apple and put it and the sugar and spices directly in the baking dish, mix them about then add the topping and put it all in the oven (occasionally I might add walnuts to the apples too). I have only just started growing rhubarb so I might have to go to your recipe then to make sure it's a good consistency... but there's nothing like a good crumble (with icecream and or cream) for comfort food :D Oh and I think that plant in your back yard is a Dianthus/Carnation... I think they are basically the same thing just different name but I have a bunch around the place... some lovely flowers.

Before you know it you will be inundated with Courgettes. From what I can gather... the main danger you might have with your carrots in the raised beds is carrot root fly. I'm not sure if it's throughout all the U.K. but it seems it's fairly common. I don't think we have them in Australia and I sowed some carrots a month or so ago and they seem to be doing alright... despite us dipping into the colder days. It's all looking lovely though... to think, from messy piles, to beds and hope... to crops and joy! Well done!

My butternut squash are doing the same, spaghetti squash next to them are doing great, maybe they just don’t like our British temperatures lol

Just a thought... but my mother tought me to lay out a peice of wood and pick it up underneath you will find lots of slugs. I wonder if during the day they are going between the wood and the soil on your framed out beds and coming out to destroy your plants when it's convenient 🤔 I hope you can get the slug population under control! San Marzano are notorious for blossom end rot .I gave up on them after three years and sowed Marmande which are no problem 🙂Peppers are looking great Emma 🎉

Hi Emma I put in a tiny hole in the lid of 2 litre plastic drinks bottles fill with water turn upside down then put in my tomato or any other pots they act as drip feeders 🐑🐑 better off saturating the compost first though xx

Should always remove blossoms from juvenile plants. It keeps the plant from putting all it's energy into fruit production. Helps the plant be much more healthy and stronger.

Hey, I work at Aldi, and when we get live plants in store they arrive on different types of trays. some of these trays are large, black and fairly shallow, but have no holes (I use these for my bottom up watering of seedlings). The staff will be absolutely fine with you taking these trays, we only end up sending them for recycling. Same goes for any of the containers, the cardboard layers on the pallets of water (pretty good, clean cardboard). Just mention it to the checkout person, and it'll be cool.
