Hello I just came across your channel not too long ago and I absolutely love the fact that you simplify things! I’m new to 3D printing, chitubox is not working for me in a simplicity way. I was wondering what you recommend for me to use lychee free or the pro version? Oh I’ll be running the program on macOS and my printer is elegoo Saturn 4 ultra if that helps? I greatly appreciate your time and advice.

I can happily report that your preferred settings worked well for me on the Uniformation GKTwo at 50um resolution. I print dental models, so there’s lot of curves and points that now look nicer and have less ringing print lines. It’s an aesthetic upgrade and probably only I notice it but I can see it mattering more for printing those minis and figures. Your Lychee settings were Smooth surfaces. Radius 4. Grey offset 50%. Definitely a needed product for finishing and gap or hole filling. The sticky, gel-like consistency has some uses and probably can be thinned down slightly if you need a bit more flowability but not runny like using resin from a bottle would be. On the other side, having a less sticky, more “putty” like consistency, like “milliput” or like “plumber’s putty” (or any number of uv-curing or air-curing resin putties you can find at your hardware store, would be great from Funcrecol, if they wanted to make such a thing.

Also I have a new mic since this vid, so my audio is massively improved, and I removed the music.

Hey! Great video! My team and I discovered the layer specific island scans a few years back and I published a very similar workflow for (what I call) "Semi-Auto supports" for minis in one of my videos. I think it's a really good entry level option for users who want to try to kitbash, use eldritch foundry or the such, or for users buying from smaller artists who cant afford to pay for professional presupports! That said, you can take the technique even a step further. Little known fact, Real island scan not only takes layer height into account, but also XY pixel size! If you want to be even more particular or carve out even finer details, you can scan using 2 different pixel sizes too! Like the original Saturn has a 50um XY res and the Saturn 2 has a 28um. This is taking it to a level most probably don't need, but for the obsessive people out there, this is a trick to taking things further. Good on you man for getting out there and teaching others! We need more people in our community who are putting in the work to educate and share their knowledge! You got a new subscriber :D

The future is AI-placed supports. Lychee needs to get on this while they can still be the front-runner. Whoever does this well first will have a huge advantage in the marketplace. Most of my time printing is spent placing supports, with the 2nd largest annoyance being trying to remove them without damaging the model. Nothing will save users more time. I would select any slicer that does this well using AI over any other slicer that does not. It would make printing MUCH more enjoyable, and would significantly increase the amount of printing that I do.

Thanks for the video!!! Is the Anti-Alisasing done BY Lychee (in its slicing process), or is it done by the PRINTER itself (and Lychee only sent it commands to do those values). I guess seeing all printers are different in what they would give, this must be done by LYCHEE really. (?)
@IPrint3dMinis
@IPrint3dMinis 2 ай бұрын
Yes and yes, AA settings are controlled by the hardware, and determined by the resin quality. The software can insert it's own software or coding into the mix, and it will work on some printers, and not others. Lychee does not play with Elegoo as well as some other brands like Anycubic, and some older printers do not use the AA at all. Cheap and standard resins will also not really do much in terms of AA settings.
@MrPetersVideo
@MrPetersVideo 2 ай бұрын
@@IPrint3dMinis Hmmm , I tried a few forms of AA (smooth etc) and settings and they all printed 'abortions' - total failures. Versus "No AA" prints it perfectly as usual. I used an Elegoo Saturn 3 Ultra and Anycubic ABS-Like Pro2 resin. That has been a highly (100%) reliable resin, with a wide tolerance range for settings that will still just keep working. But whatever caused it, it the 'sytem' (printer/resin) hated any form of AA !!
@IPrint3dMinis
@IPrint3dMinis 2 ай бұрын
Yes, as mentioned in my previous comment Elegoo does not play well with Lychee AA settings. Try doing the support work in Lychee, export the STL and import it into Chitubox, then run the slicing and use the AA settings in Chitu, this should work better for your printer.

Thanks for the sub, and the like, always nice. As far as the question that is a good one. So, far I have been using structure as a replacement for bracings, but I am also using manual supports in most cases. If I use autos, and grid snap is turned on, I will most likely add about 30% more support if I am using normal, 20% if I was using High, and never use Ultra, but less than 10% maybe even less than 5% as Ultra adds a lot of supports, and with the grid, it will be even heavier.
