Down here in Cornwall, we are seeing bees and butterflys but less than usual, when the sun comes out my garden springs alive. For me the unrelenting chemtrails are to blame...
@HeathcroftExoticGardenКүн бұрын
Thanks for the update. Here even when the sun is out there are very few insects this year.

Hi it’s the same up here in the north east I’ve only had two bug splat’s on my windshield and no bugs on my reg plate .what’s going on ?
@HeathcroftExoticGarden5 күн бұрын
I wish I knew what was going on, it can't be good for the whole ecosystem.
@johnsloan94666 күн бұрын
Now that you mention it, it’s similar down in Eastbourne. Garden is normally full off bees and butterfly’s. Have seen the odd butterfly but very little bees.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully its just a blip this year, but it makes you wonder how they will recover.

Ive just got one of these, i cant find much on how to look after them, how are you going to overwinter it?
@HeathcroftExoticGarden5 күн бұрын
I'm going to overwinter it under glass in my cold greenhouse (just frost free), hopefully by next year it will have built up a bit more of a woody stem that should give it a bit more of a chance outside in a sheltered position.
@djjluvv5 күн бұрын
@@HeathcroftExoticGarden ahhhh ok, ive not got a greenhouse do you think i should wrap it and pop it in a shed, i so dont want to loose it 🙈
@HeathcroftExoticGarden3 күн бұрын
@@djjluvv I would think a shed would be okay, the plant will lose its leaves in the winter just make sure the roots don't freeze if it gets really cold.

I saw the Psudopanax crassifolius trunk in the opening seconds, its so identifyable if you know what you are looking for! How old is it? Mine looks a bit bigger and this is the only other UK video where I have seen one!
@HeathcroftExoticGardenАй бұрын
I have both Psudopanax crassifolius and Psudopanax ferox growing near to each other, ferox has the biggest trunk and is about 20 years old, it did not like the move from my previous garden and is not looking well. Crassifolius was also moved and is doing well, I think it's about 12 years old, I lose track , it was confined to a pot for a number of years so this may have effected its growth somewhat. Great plants to grow and always a conversation starter when people visit the garden.

Hi. Regarding the Fatsia Greenfingers. I was told By a nursery owner that Greenfingers was the name given commercially for a Edward Needham Polycarpa that was put through tissue culture The Needham form is grown from seed so it’s possible for it to have natural variation between plants. Greenfingers Being cloned should all look like the original plant it was Cultured from.

Thanks for the info, I had guessed as much but not had it confirmed. Its a great plant for the garden whichever name you buy it under.

I would advice growing creeping jenny around your pond get the rocks and stones covered with plants and moss currently it’s a death trap for amphibians that need more moisture. Some form of wood to let animals get out of the pond would be good , painting yogurt on the rocks will encourage moss to establish. , love your garden , hope to see it developed over time .
@HeathcroftExoticGardenАй бұрын
Your input on the pond is much appreciated, it’s still very new and settling in. Going forward I may well use some of your ideas. Thanks for taking the time to share.

Where the tree ferns grow in Tasmania and Victorian highlands they can get up to 12 feet of rain a year!.. This can be an issue in the UK as even in S Wale's we get about 4 feet of rain.
@HeathcroftExoticGardenАй бұрын
Wow, thanks for those figures I didn’t realise they got that much rain. No wonder I have to give supplementary watering in Norfolk, that is one of the driest areas of the UK!

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I decided against taking that approach as I did not want to create a sump effect from the surrounding soil. I guess it all depends on what type of soil you garden on.

Planted mine out last year at a similar size to yours. Only took -3 so not really tested. Amazing leaves but like you say the slugs hunt them down. I think a sheltered spot is also key as the leaves do get battered by the wind. Enjoying watching you building your new garden.

are you going to chop the leafs of your med palm when it’s fully established
@HeathcroftExoticGarden4 ай бұрын
I like to leave as many leaves as possible whilst they are still green, as I believe they power the growth of the palm. It was holding leaves nearly down to the soil level before I moved it but due to cutting the roots when I moved it I removed several to help it re-establish.
