This is a great series of videos. I struggle with the mechanical stuff so it is particularly useful to see how you solved those problems.

Oils you tell me how you power the strips. I.e. what battery do you use, do you use multiple packs split between the strips etc.?

Thanks! Glad you like them!

I use one battery for all the LEDs on the frame and another in each wheel and helmet. (One per micro:bit) Here's more about the battery: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fJinard6rdTZe6s.htmlsi=S6rW0i9WX5vov546&t=187

Hi! OMG, how cool! I bought this sweatshirt at a thrift store w out noticing that it had lights, took it to wash, not dry and noticed it started to light up even after it was in the washing machine, but I can't find any buttons or connections to turn it off, so I decided to look on line, and found ur site. Any suggestions?
@TechnoChic19 күн бұрын
If it lights up, there is a power source! Look for a hidden pocket sewn into a seam somewhere. It likely has a small battery and switch.

Once upon a time, we used playing cards in the spokes to make noise. Then came electronics and some of us wrapped a wire around that orange flag on the back wheel and mounted a small mobile CB radio to the handlebars. Today, we have NeoPixel strips and customize our bikes with dazzling visual effects. Amazing! I can see a choreographed ride someday, where all the bikes are wirelessly connected together and the data is not limited to each individual bike. Put 10, 20 or 50 bikes together and have a moving display that is in sync. The sky's the limit. Keep up the great work TechnoChic! 👍
@TechnoChic22 күн бұрын
Thanks! Yes! I would love to make a multi-bike display. The micro:bits can sense the strength of the radio signal between them, so I want to try to make the bikes change color based on their distance from the main controller/lead bike. Haven’t tried it yet- need to experiment and see if it could work! 💃🏻✨Thanks for the encouragement!

I made essentially the same comment on a pervious video, but you really are amazingly skilled at breaking these tasks down into manageable parts... I haven't got all of my equipment together yet, but I am loving using the simulator in MakeCode to follow along and make my own experiments... I made a knight rider scrolling red light today... Anyway thank you for all this work, it's amazing, and I know there are lots of makers out there who are so thankful for these tutorials!
@TechnoChicАй бұрын
Thanks so much Shaun! Yes, the simulator is a great place to start. The night rider scroller is a great choice! Please share your project on Discord - I'm hoping to find funding to keep going with some quick videos explaining individual animations, so I'd love to see what types of animations everyone is excited to create. :)

You never mentioned UV resistance. I have gel coat strips outside and after only one year, the gel coat has completely degraded and become yellow and partially opaque.
@TechnoChicАй бұрын
Oh no! Mine did too - It hasn't degraded the look of the LEDs in the dark however. What would you add for UV resistance?

Another great video! One of my favourite tricks for waterproofing with heatshrink is to shoot hot glue inside the heat shrink - it shrinks the wrap and seals and reinforces the hole at the same time!

It would be neat if the slave receivers automatically downloaded the patterns from the master controller so that only the master would need to be reprogrammed to implement new patterns.
@TechnoChicАй бұрын
Yeah! That's possible. You can do a lot more than what's in this video. A simple version would be to send the first pixel color over the radio and watch it run down all of the NeoPixel strips at the same time. That way you're letting one controller "paint" all the other pixels too. :)

If the battery JST connector is wired backwards for your needs it should be pretty simple to pop the crimps out of the connector housing with a narrow pointed implement and push them back in the positions you want. Just be careful not to short the crimps when they are both free of the housing.
@TechnoChic3 ай бұрын
Interesting. I've always just re-soldered a new connector. Is there a trick to getting the crimps out without breaking the connector?
@notsurt3 ай бұрын
@@TechnoChic They've just got a springy protrusion that catches on the housing. Push down firmly on that spring and pull lightly on the wire. If you squash the spring too much for it to lock back in the housing, just bend it back up a bit and it should be fine.
@TechnoChic3 ай бұрын
@@notsurt Ah Thanks! Do you use tweezers for this?
@notsurt3 ай бұрын
@@TechnoChic Usually just use my multimeter probes because they are always at hand, but pointy tweezers should do the job just fine.
