For those that think Josiah Sharma was influenced solely by money, Name Image Likeness funding is a factor in every recruitment. Sharma is from the west coast, though. Remaining on the west coast, and playing at a great program like Oregon makes sense, especially considering moving halfway across the country to Texas, or basically all the way across the country to Alabama. Sharma has the chance to play for a defensive minded head coach in Coach Landing, rather than offensive minded head coaches in Coach Sarkisian or Coach DeBoer. The good thing for Texas is that Coach Baker has a chance to develop and motivate Sydir Mitchell, and influence Alfred Collins to finally play consistently in his fifth year at Texas. New DL and LB coaches didn't help with relationships... If a couple of dudes blow up at DT this year, like Collins or ____, will be off and running again.. Our LB coach does have some ties to relay on.. DT coach has almost none..

I refuse to believe that there are only two or three decent quality D-tackles in the State of Texas with the number of powerhouse high schools playing great football. I also don’t understand why there are not exponentially more nationwide with all of the high schools that elite big athletes everywhere that could be great college players at a premium need position. Texas has gone after some of the highest ranked DTs in the recruiting rankings and finish in second behind some desperate school that money whips the recruits at the end leaving Texas with nothing. I don’t blame the DT coach as much as the evaluations aren’t looking at many more prospects who may not have the perfect bodies or size but are really great athletes that just need a little more development time. Lance Jackson could be an All-American DT if he wanted to with a great weight program to maximize his skills while adding weight. I bet there are hundreds of tweener types that may be shorter or weight than desired but could be another Byron Murphy with development and coaching. Texas could do a search of the state and find sleepers with NFL that would love to play for Texas but they are being overlooked, maybe even some O-line prospects that would be better DTs if they were evaluated athletically instead of always looking for perfect ready to go prospects that are very hard to find and coveted by every major program. I am just ranting and brainstorming about the situation.
