God, what a heavy, totally HELMET song. I forgot about this one- I remember vaguely hearing it through one of my friends when it came out. IMO this one's better than about half of Aftertaste, after which I pretty much stopped listening. Sounds like it fit in perfectly with the Betty stuff, which I thought out of first 4 with the "original" lineup(including Echeverria) was the most complete record for them. Almost sounds like it was in between Meantime and Betty. Saw them in '04 with the new lineup, it just wasn't my thing. I love PH, and especially Stanier. Man is a beast on the drums, love his work with Battles.

I can understand why you might've stopped after Aftertaste, but it turns out there are a bunch of excellent tracks on Size Matters. Give 'em a couple listens.

I have that record, which I bought pretty much out of loyalty at the time it came out, having seen them on all 4 tours of the previous records, hoping it would be better than I found it to be. UnfortunateIy, I think that I actually only liked about 2, maybe 3 songs off Size Matters. By the time it came out, I believe PH was picking up songs off other people and transforming them to Helmet songs for the newer records. I still sit down at my drum kit and play along to "Unwound" occasionally. Funny- I think that's as close as PH ever came to writing a ballad, and a fairly bombastic one at that lol. I happened to see them in '07 somewhere in VA or it may have been FL(been a while so forgive me and my memory which becomes more like swiss cheese every year) and I didn't recognize ANYbody onstage besides PH. My sentimental favorite is Meantime, and I have always been impressed at the runtime of Strap It On, which IIRC, clocks in at just over 32 minutes. There is literally no fat on that record AT ALL lol. Just blood boiling, driving, excellent music. PH and the original lineup were a force of nature. @@funwithdrums206

While it took me a few listens to warm up to much of the album, I'm a fan of the following songs off Size Matters: Surgery - Crashing Foreign Cars - Smart - See You Dead - Last Breath - Drug Lord - Unwound - Speak and Spell... This is a "win" rate of 72.7% (8 of 11 tracks on the album), which is why the album stands out to me as a good one. Perhaps give some of these tracks another chance? I remember my first impressions of Primus' Brown Album being fairly negative; years later, I started listening to it again and realized it is absurdly packed with gems.@@joesutherland2017
