Helmet Complete from the Johnny Mnemonic soundtrack. Great mid 90's tune from the much under appreciated band Helmet.

Sooo GLAD to here THAT! The FELLAS would be PLEASED! Then you folks could imagine what it'd be like to Drum Tech for John Stanier on the MINISTRY PSALM69 TOUR w/SEPULTURA opening? That's the Entire States & Canada, for 3 months on the Road in 1992! Good fukkin TIMES! Thanks ALL for remembering just WHO started the Groove/Mathlike/Repititious/SonicMetal & DID IT BEST! ALL those "Lite" Versions, ALL slickered up or watered down, for RADIO masses?!

I am obsessed with Helmet period. I Still love Helmet no matter who Page Hamilton picks out to be in the band he founded period.
@axebox8 жыл бұрын
I guess. But the original lineup produced all the best material. The stuff after Aftertaste is a joke.
@antoinette67548 жыл бұрын
+axebox I am a real Helmet fan. I know great music when I hear it and all of Helmet's music does it for me .Your taste in music rocks too because you are a Helmet lover too.

I don't know eh ! Size Matters is a good record; it have some good songs like Smart, Crashing Foreign Cars, etc. Monochrome is the album I less like from Helmet but Swallowing Everything is a good tune (? Seein eye Dog is not too bad. The first three songs of that album are the shit !!! and the last one, I didn't listened to it too much...

All the best elements of the Helmet sound, refined down to one tune. Stanier's piccolo snare sound perfected, a Page Hamilton riff as big as you'll hear, and the band just sitting in this gargantuan groove. The best non-album track they ever released.

YOU got parents and stuff?!/We got all night asshole/Loop it Through the shame of having seen Johnny Mnemonic a number of times but never paying enough attention to find where the song is, this track is indeed the perfect thing between Meantime and Betty. Maybe shoulda been on The Crow, with "Milquetoast" for the Johnny future.

João Veludo when did you start for John?! He used to be my Boss as well. I met the guy who came in AFTER I left to return home, so my band could Tour w/FAUST from Germany... what years did you work brother?...
@keithbornzin88886 жыл бұрын
That's RIGHT! NO picallo snares!!! He & I worked 2 Tours "DIALING HIS SOUND" and it's ALL about the Head Selection (Top&Bottom), TUNING & depth of shell(METAL, not Wood) & Stick Selection. MOST players made that MAD DASH on picallos, RIGHT AFTER "STRAP IT ON & MEANTIME" even MORE! Fooled ya👍😉

God, what a heavy, totally HELMET song. I forgot about this one- I remember vaguely hearing it through one of my friends when it came out. IMO this one's better than about half of Aftertaste, after which I pretty much stopped listening. Sounds like it fit in perfectly with the Betty stuff, which I thought out of first 4 with the "original" lineup(including Echeverria) was the most complete record for them. Almost sounds like it was in between Meantime and Betty. Saw them in '04 with the new lineup, it just wasn't my thing. I love PH, and especially Stanier. Man is a beast on the drums, love his work with Battles.

I can understand why you might've stopped after Aftertaste, but it turns out there are a bunch of excellent tracks on Size Matters. Give 'em a couple listens.

I have that record, which I bought pretty much out of loyalty at the time it came out, having seen them on all 4 tours of the previous records, hoping it would be better than I found it to be. UnfortunateIy, I think that I actually only liked about 2, maybe 3 songs off Size Matters. By the time it came out, I believe PH was picking up songs off other people and transforming them to Helmet songs for the newer records. I still sit down at my drum kit and play along to "Unwound" occasionally. Funny- I think that's as close as PH ever came to writing a ballad, and a fairly bombastic one at that lol. I happened to see them in '07 somewhere in VA or it may have been FL(been a while so forgive me and my memory which becomes more like swiss cheese every year) and I didn't recognize ANYbody onstage besides PH. My sentimental favorite is Meantime, and I have always been impressed at the runtime of Strap It On, which IIRC, clocks in at just over 32 minutes. There is literally no fat on that record AT ALL lol. Just blood boiling, driving, excellent music. PH and the original lineup were a force of nature. @@funwithdrums206

While it took me a few listens to warm up to much of the album, I'm a fan of the following songs off Size Matters: Surgery - Crashing Foreign Cars - Smart - See You Dead - Last Breath - Drug Lord - Unwound - Speak and Spell... This is a "win" rate of 72.7% (8 of 11 tracks on the album), which is why the album stands out to me as a good one. Perhaps give some of these tracks another chance? I remember my first impressions of Primus' Brown Album being fairly negative; years later, I started listening to it again and realized it is absurdly packed with gems.@@joesutherland2017

The club scene toward the beginning. The bridge from this song is playing in the background while the fat lady in the Viking outfit is singing some opera note. It's effin surreal.
