I watch gear videos to hear people play since so many of the skilled players are forced to shill. I have my rig and I love it so I'm set. I could care less about methodology since there are far too many variables to draw anything more than a "maybe?" from any review. Also I'm not buying anything anyway, LOL.
@LonelyRocker5 сағат бұрын
Fair enough. I don’t like the terms”shill”. I agree some channels may be “compromised” but the honest hardworking channels needs sone support to keep the videos flowing. But you’re bang on. There are SO MANY variables.

TIRED OF TONE STUDIO AND ALL OTHER COMPUTER CRAP JUST TO PLAY GUITAR BUTTON. --------> 🛑 I bought this specifically because I’m so sick of tweaking my Kemper, Helix, QC, MX5, ToneX and AxeFx via computer. 10 years of that shit and I’m DONE with all of them. No more apps, Bluetooth, needing to be a freakn PhD in computer science and a music engineer. Buy this if you just want to play with badass tones with very little effort. It’s a GREAT device.

I think that what a lot of gear channels get wrong ("wrong" is subjective), is that they don't compare and/or eliminate variables. So often, a reviewer will say "this thing has such and such tonal qualities" but don't actually prove it. If they're reviewing a guitar, and they say the pickups have a lot of clarity, they should run a different guitar through that same signal chain to show us, right? If they were telling the truth, the other guitar should sound muddy, flubby, whatever, in comparison, and now we have a legitimate reason to potentially purchase said guitar or pickups. Gear reviews exist in a vacuum for the most part. We as the viewers don't actually know what the gear being reviewed sounds like until a part of the signal chain is changed. This thought process led me to create my own video on the topic and propose changes to video formats that would actually benefit the consumer. Things that benefit consumers often don't benefit the people who need consumers to keep consuming new products. All my tests and others tests have done is make me care less about gear and just use what I have. XD

some great talking points Dan, totally agree when you say 'sharing the experience' and everyone's use case will be different, you can't possibly replicate all the possible ways people will use equipment, that's not really feasible i think the hardest use case to really demonstrate is in a room say with a full band + loud drummer, as let's face it if a cab is mic'd up or direct even a 5 watt combo will translate over a PA and might even sound better 😄 in youtube land i think people will tune in to see what kind of tones this or that particular youtube channel manages to get out of a unit and form an opinion based on that in my use case for example, we use IEMs and modelling with the band, the recorded tone is paramount and how it sits in the mix with the other instruments. however i still want /need to hear stuff in isolation to give me a better idea and be able to project 'your experience' to my own possible experience should i be interested in getting a piece of equipment, the isolated tone is key as long as any processing is also detailed (in the description or otherwise) that's the main thing I'm also part of that group and make videos as well where i try to share the experience and various tones from my use case (that may or may not appeal or apply to my audience) another talking point or thing to do might otherwise be in consistency, for example back in the day i had one main 4x12 that I'd use with tube amp heads, so how stuff sounded through that cab was the benchmark. These days with loadboxes/IRs there's so much choice, but perhaps always hearing one consistent /staple IR/cab might be cool in order to better compare various amps in various videos (e.g how an amp sounds through a v30 or greenback etc etc..) this might be a way of doing it thanks for the video

@@LonelyRocker You feel you could devote a segment without ambient FX. Like the amp on its own, dry, straight in, that’s it. Nothing time consuming obviously just a short segment of ‘just the amp’ Clean, OD, and Saturated without Verb/Delay/Modulation or backing track. Or at least very little verb anyway, A “base line” basically.

Well here are my thoughts Dan. First I love the phrase 'It's pre-recorded sounds' for digital stuff. Wow that just hit the nail on the head. Now as for evaluations, I would get three speaker cabs. A single small club cab, maybe a dual cab, and then a 4 banger half stack. Have a speaker switcher between the three (I can fab one for you if you would like), and do an A-B-C comparison. Next I think quality of build is important and you might want to ask the manufacturers the 'behind the scenes' on build details that the general purchaser might not know. We have many customers wanting to know all the quirks and details on their gear that are not in the operation manual. Next -- discuss repairability when out of warranty and warranty itself. Next create your own chart stating 1-10 'ease of use' rating in your opinion. This should be based on how long it takes to dial in a tone, etc. Some people don't have three weeks to dial in their tone, so they stay away from more sophisticated gear. Lastly, CUSTOMER SERVICE from the factory. Does it exist? Can you speak with someone in support? Hope this helps. Love your vids!

Now i’m the owner of a Tonex One pedal and i’d like to capture my favorite HElIX complex amp tones for this small unic captures player but i can’t find anything online with this specific question. I guess this process could be very easy and very useful not for me only and I’d be happy to have an advice from you! Thank tyou again!

My pleasure! My friend Jon for @sonicdrivestudio actually captured tones form a modeler and did some videos about it. Keep in mind capturing is done through your computer, not the pedal. Once captured you can load it onto the pedal. Also, you can only capture amp tones no effects. So amps, drives, boosts plus your speaker choice can be captured. But no effects like delays or reverbs or anything like that. I have a video avout ONEX capturing on my channel. Maybe a good place to start. Good luck!!

Lets just hope jcm900mkiii will never become collectable as I converted mine to Sir#34 making it less of a collector item. That turned out really good. Mk3 is reasonably good sounding amp but does not have much dirt unless you use the diode clipping. Why Marshall decided to reissue the dual reverb is weird decision and it’s even more weird that someone would buy a reissue. Originals can be had for next to nothing all day long.

Your opinion does matter and that's why I've always enjoyed your videos. YT is swamped with rubbish and it's harder to find quality content produced by genuine people who actually enjoy what they do - and yours is just that. This video helped me understand the person behind the videos and I found it genuinely touching - and all the more supportive of you to continue. It's PERSONALITY that attracts an audience and your genuineness, and humble but amicable character is what draws people here. But what matters is if you, yourself, enjoy it. I have a channel of 13k subscribers - I earn a fraction of what I earned in a 'normal' job and work 3 times harder - but love what I do - and that's what keeps me going. That, to me, is the fundamental question for you. As for content - just anything that interests you and your genuine enthusiasm is what will sell it to the audience. And 'Lonely Rocker' resonates with many of us who similarly share your journey in our own interpretations of life. Hell, I enjoy your videos primarily because you're a fellow Rush fan! So, stick at it and regards from a small 'lonely' corner in the UK.
