I'm looking at Bayard's action starting around @2:21 and I'm not sure it was a fleche. Bayard's body movements look more like (at least to me) an attempt to stop-hit Tulen as he's coming forward. The problem for Bayard is that he keeps pulling his arm back to avoid Tulen's disruptive blade actions, but does not maintain the proper distance with his feet. He tries to slip the point past the parry (perhaps he was targeting the arm), but he either misses or his timing is off and his blade gets caught by Tulen's large, powerful parry-6. Once that happens the odds of him remising from that awkward position before Tulen can riposte are very slim.

I wonder if it is due to more than just the hand and knee being in contact with the floor. It is as if the entirety of both legs are in contact with the floor. I always remember my coach telling me that you can have only your off-hand along with both feet to stabilize you on the piste. By rule it seems they have added the rear-knee. It seems like Minobe's "points-of-contact" exceed even this broadening of the rule.

Why would the coach withhold information from his student? Even though Lopez Pourtier is fencing a former student of his coach, that should not matter at all. Lan is older, fenced longer with more experience. This is no different to Stefano Cerioni who coached the Italian mens foil team who then coached the Russians through to the 2016 Rio Olympics. Sure it might be a bit awkward but at the end of the day Obry is there to help his studets win medals. Lan adapted to Lopez and won the match. End of discussion.
