I have done some thorough videos on it years ago, but they are pretty far back in the timeline. Once upon a time, milling was ALL of my videos.

Hardwood trees hold on the bark tight in the winter, but it peels right off in the spring. I use the straight claw of a framing hammer to debark just along the cut line (that's where a laser level would be a great tool). Any who doesn't think cleaning up a log before milling with a chain saw has never sharpened all the way around a 52" chain!

That's a nice looking piece of walnut-- thanks for showing the close-up of the grain patterns! Those banana pieces can be a pain, though. Would there have been a down side to cutting the log with the sweep sideways to get curved slabs? The right customer would love them for signs, benches or table tops. I think everyone knows the frustration of getting to just within an inch or two of the end of the log only to catch the flare at the butt end. I use plastic logging wedges to open up the kerf, back the blade up a few inches, saw off the tip of the log, and finish the cut. A cordless electric chain saw is perfect for that. And those cleats on the log rests should lock into place. Hope to see you at the open house!

@daveboyt6810 Morning Dave! I'm really looking forward to the open house! This particular log was actually cut for a professional "wood carver." He kinda dictated what he wanted. Been quite a bit of sawying since this video. I've pondered an electric saw around the mill, but it's hard to justify when I have 30 gas chainsaws lying around🤣. I've actually done some testing on the Stihl battery saws vs gas and different chain pitches. Tree guys bring their saws to have them fixed and sharpened and then I'll take them out to test them. I do have 3 "climbing saws" in the till and they are cool for trimming, but it always seems like I'm bucking down a 28" White Oak and mostly just bring out a the 272xp or the 372xp... Those are actually what I consider my "small saws."✌️🤠

William, you are way out of line with this video. These are grown women who work for a living and they are fully capable of making their own decisions. It is creepy that they have a bunch of old men inspecting their clothes and telling them what to wear and what to do. The lumber girls make money by showing their bodies in very short shorts and tight tops. And they know that their videos have a sexualized component. Just compare your typical logging clothes to theirs. They do non-logging stuff such as dancing in thight clothes. They exactly know what they are doing. They make money by attracting guys interested in sex, so nobody should complain about "creeps" or "inappropriate comments", neither the girls nor the viewers. Its just their KZfaq business model. But I understand that one can be worried if it is the right business mode. Its a very mild form of OnlyFans.

I think I’d gusset the support bracket on the left (drive) side. If you just take it off and weld in some gussets it won’t bend or flex. Those nylon guide bushings look like they’ll wear all right. I run a Woodmizer LT 40 hydraulic and the blade guide runs on rollers with what resemble very narrow v-pulleys with square bar in them. They can be finnicky as well but they at least have bearings in them. Maybe you can modify yours to run on roller bearings or something. As far as blades breaking, I usually get 3 or 4 sharpenings out of a blade and then they’ll break. I think it’s work-hardening. My old grinding system won’t get right through the gullet like the new CBN wheels do so maybe that’s part of it although I’ve heard other people say that they don’t get much more even with the gullet ground out to get rid of cracks. I think maybe your mill runs larger diameter blade wheels so I think that would help if it’s a work-hardening issue. Milling is a bunch of work but it’s rewarding in many ways as you say. It can be a hobby that pays its own way and sometimes much better.

Well, my HD36v2 with full hydraulics is more expensive than a fully hydraulic LT35. So, this isn't a "cheap mill." It cost 15K in manual form, and the hydraulics are another 15k. This isn't a "Woodland Mills."

Hey Bill, I have something to share about the new roller guides from Norwood. I have had my mill for a little over two years and for the first time it cut into one of my backstops. Completely destroyed the blade and bent the bracket holding the roller guide on the exhaust side of the mill. Bent so bad that the guide was pointing down about 8 degrees. Looking at the bracket, it has an inherent weakness. It is simply a bent piece of mild steel. Where the bracket bends back on itself and creates a seam, it needs to be fully welded and maybe a gusset added as well. This is a problem that everyone that has this kit needs to be aware of. This is the only problem I have had since installing the roller guide kit. Have cut hundreds of board feet and no issues til now. This is an easy fix.
