Ive camped there many of times. The road is horrible washboard took two hours to go 20 miles. It is beautiful though. There are several great day hikes and more if you want of course. Slide lake and the natural bridge. Opposite side of the lake from porcupine pass. The video footage was beautiful.

I have 10,000 miles on my '21 model and still love it like the day I got it....great bike!! I have done just a bit of 'farkling' and here are a few of the upgrades I found worthwhile. Hand guards (Bark-busters), one-finger clutch lever, tail tidy, 'the fix' rear brake lever, fuel tank cap gasket (all Camel ADV - great stuff), and you'll want better tires when those new ones wear out! Ride it lots, but ride safe! Cheers!

Reliability cannot be argued with .Its hard to beat a Yamaha or a jap bike.
@potato_snek4 ай бұрын
It will never let you down in terms of reliability. You need a high mount exhaust because the stock one will bend when you drop it and f*ck up the swing arm; it's a design flaw. In that regard, I could recommend the silver HP Corse. Looks great, amazing sound with the DB killer inserted and it doesn't stand in the way of luggage. You'll also need a tail tidy because the signal light will melt if you chose to go with this exhaust or any other high mounted ones.
@JamesVonwiegen4 ай бұрын
I plan on doing the tail tidy was the temperature starts to warm up and I start to ride more often. The exhaust hasn't been a huge deal for me and have dropped the bike 10+ times. I will eventually grab one but they all seem overpriced to me.
@downbytheriver5014 ай бұрын
I second the HP corse and tail tidy. I got a full header back exhaust from them and I think it shed about 15 lbs off the bike, sounds and looks way better. Think it cost a total of 850$ or so so pretty fair priced for a nice piece of Italian craftsmanship.

Did you consider the Tuareg? To be fair it is a hell of a lot uglier than the Tenere. Also whereabout was this filmed, looks nice
@JamesVonwiegen4 ай бұрын
I did consider it, but I thought it was uglier and I know there are Yamaha parts and dealers everywhere. But it could easily be argued the Tuareg is a better bike imo. It was filmed in Cloudcroft NM and also Buena Vista CO. The thumbnail is outside of Moab Utah, so alot of places!
@jasonlayton87604 ай бұрын
@@JamesVonwiegen beautiful! I’d love to be near there. Yeah the look of the Tuareg is my least favorite part and the only reason I question buying a Tenere over the Tuareg. Dealer network would matter to me if I didn’t have the ability to do maintenance myself and I enjoy doing it and not spending so much money at the dealer
@davidcolinfisher10344 ай бұрын
Come on...get real....A Tuareg vs a T7 for this type of "gloveless" rider is pointless comparison. Tuareg less reliable, more expensive, no dealers, did I say less reliable? When did the idea of being stranded on a bike that stopped working for some odd reason become so unimportant. Yamaha has earned the reputation with the Tenere 700 as being one of the most reliable bikes for many reasons....Anyhow......whatever....he bought a T7...its a little late now don't you think? LIke he is going to take it back and trade it in for a Tuareg magically at the dealer that doesn't exist....goodness me. Does it look like he is Italy, or sound like it? NO. Aprillia has no presence in North America....Yamaha does......
@jasonlayton87604 ай бұрын
@@davidcolinfisher1034 back your bull on the Tuareg 660 being unreliable or the 660 in general being unreliable in the last few years. The Tuareg is plenty reliable and there are plenty of user reports to prove that. Sure, it’s not going to touch Yamahas reputation but that’s not a realistic goal in the near future anyways. You sure get wound up real easy. People can have conversations on the internet for the sake of having conversations. I forgot to attach a trigger warning for your kind so for that I apologize.

Not wearing gloves on a motorcycle is just madness.
@davidcolinfisher10344 ай бұрын
Ya it does seem weird that some riders don't get that most basic, of basic rules. My mommy taught me to always wear gloves when I was a small child....It is a lack of understanding of the consequences of "not" wearing gloves, and the lack of understanding of "grip" etc. Ya very strange behavior out there, glad I am not the only one pointing it out on motorcycle videos...usually videos involving crashes....

Definitely get an exhaust, even if its dead cheap , makes the look and sound so much better!
@JamesVonwiegen4 ай бұрын
I would like to eventually, just not my top priority right now.
@davidcolinfisher10344 ай бұрын
Why? you run the risk of causing problems, particularly if its a "cheap" one as you suggest, and the performance change would be marginal with just an "exhaust". High end headers, and mufflers...or nothing. bad advice mate.
@davidcolinfisher10344 ай бұрын
@@JamesVonwiegen You have to ask yourself...why...why even eventually...whats the point...looks, weight. This is more or less a marketing scam by the manufacturers....Nothing wrong with the system in place....many better places to put your money...like a good helmet...."AND SOME GLOVES".

Me and my wife have the same bikes haha. Only thing I recommend is the rubber stickies for the sides where your legs grab. Sir, when you said "I have around 1600-1700 pounds left over to tow a trailer or haul a motorcycle" this is not accurate. The Dodge RAM 3500 single wheel has a towing capacity of 15,000 lbs, I believe even more if you have high output. You're confusing the payload capacity, which is whats in the truck bed. You should easily tow another 10-13k lbs Anyways, this is awesome, I wish I could find a small northern lite like this. I don't like the big chunky modern truck campers.
@JamesVonwiegen5 ай бұрын
No SRW on all brands is way over 15,000lbs. My trucks tow capacity is 20,000lbs. CCC is 4,400. Rear axle payload is 3,750lbs.

The road isn’t great but yes I would take a small trailer down there by going slow. There was some larger 5th wheels a few miles in. Aslong as it’s a small trailer or good suspension. If not there plenty of spots early into the road.
