I was searching this video from my watched history because I was looking for a new lens and remembered watching a really well explained video of a rounded up lens collection a year ago, and wanted to watch it again. So I typed "lens" in the watched history search box, scrolled through the entire results, could not find this video. Weird, I thought, maybe "collection" would give me better results. Nope, gave me results with "collection" in the title of all kind of crap I had previously watched but not this one which I was looking for. Well ok, maybe the title didn't contain any of those keywords, so I went through 30 minutes of scouring all youtube channels to find this. Now I notice there is literally "lens collection" in the title, why didn't it show up in search?! Went back to the search history to do a scientific experiment. Indeed, it does not show this video for either "lens" or "collection" search terms (shows other videos with any of those words just fine), it only finds this video when searching for "lens collection". It was painful to notice, *youtube censors some of the search results as if you have never watched them*, if it thinks they are not relevant, even though the words appear in the very description of the video! For a moment I was doubting my own sanity there, but no, it's youtube search which is rigged. I think your channel is one of the best photography related on youtube, and I have always wondered why there are so few subscribers but how on earth there could be more if youtube boycotts your channel for some reason! I really really hate seeing something like this happening, it's just not fair. Sorry for a long rant in broken english, this is unbelievable trickery by youtube.

it's a lot like a vintage lens but without having to worry about fungus etc. I have the Meike version which as far as I can tell is the same optics. For the price it's hard to complain. The softness, lack of contrast and chromatic aberrations make it totally unsuitable for nearly all pro work, but for hobby shots it's fun and I like the character, particularly the swirliness. The only thing I dislike is the stepless aperture, not so much because it doesn't have defined stops, but because it's easy to accidentally change it. It may be better on the 7artisans, I don't know, but from my experience all budget lenses with a stepless ring seem to have the same issue.

Hi Matt! I really enjoyed your review. I just to have a D800, I sold it ( shortly after I regretted ). I'm thinking about buying back another one, but I'm debating between a D800 or D810.

Do you think shifting the lens creates a better result than correcting for distortion using a photo editing software?

Considering how fast it vignettes making you have to crop anyway I would say it’s about the same if not even a little worse than doing in post tbh

i had just got the email to give this a try myself, found your video through their email link and im thinking its legit, sounds better than yeti and many others i have heard, i am not a tech geek by any means, but i ca tell its not a cheap pos, so thanks for your honest review and upfront display of what i can only say is a worthy video to watch about a product many of us creators will probably be using in the years ahead. thanks

FANTASTIC review exactly what I needed, especially the details about the sensor thanks man ❤ I downgrade from XT30II to this one now due to size and maybe I will fall in love with X trans 1 - Recommend Voigtländer 27 f2 with this, who even needs auto focus and a X100VI when you can manually focus paint with light and still use burst mode and focus to infinity for street? <- some stuff I learned over time and with a LOT of research can’t wait to get this pocket rocket

If image quality has improved in the past 10 years, it's hard to see. I shoot with a 2018 Pentax K1 Mark II (same sensor as the D810) and the images I get from it always seem to please me more than the images I get from my much more recent mirrorless cameras.

The lack of subject separation made me avoid this lens. It's not a 70-200 with Tamron G2... it's an exceptional zoom but it has its limits.If you do portraits stills you' ll be disapointed

Best non technical review I saw about this lens ... It's usable, it's cheap, has caracter, it's manual, good for some old schools calm shooting in the streets, and some awesome portraits. As soon as the budget alows it it will be in my shelf.

I'm looking to jump in the photography game and checking out videos on different cameras to get an idea of what my next camera should be, presuming I can gain some traction. You talked about video, and not using a DSLR. I like the DF given the lightweight feel (and retro) and was wondering how much of a shot it'd be to versatility if the camera lacks that feature. Curious to hear what you shoot video with, if you're not using a mirrorless or DSLR?

Never heard of focusing problems with the Art lenses on a D810. The focusing might work worse in live though compared to through viewfinder (on all lenses).

I'm using this lens on micro43 Olympus. I like how it gets blown by light source near the subject. The only thing i don't like is how hard to focus on this lens. From the infinity to 1,5m mark is about 1cm of focus ring travel. Closing the aperture to, for example, f8 doesn't help. If I miss focusing even a bit- pictures turn out blurry.

Hey Matt, I am a beginner photographer and I try to do a lot of things like landscape, events, astro, travel so I need something very versatile. But I am confused between this and Viltrox 13mm 1.4. This 10-24 is better for versatility and landscape but Viltrox is good for astro and events and that nice creamy bokeh. Can you please guide in which direction I should go?
@randyk1919
@randyk1919 18 күн бұрын
Jumping in here.. each fits somewhat different use cases so you're the ultimate judge of where you'd like to take your photography. But If you're a beginner I'd recommend the Viltrox for a couple reasons, at least: 1) the fast f1.4 aperture is far better suited to low light and astro, and 2) it's highly beneficial to master a single focal length, first. While zooms are also great, the notion of purposely limiting one's options can help build your compositional and visualization skills more quickly than a zoom can. And zooms can tend to make one lazy when composing.. quite often the more interesting fields of view and perspectives can be found by "zooming with your feet"

Ive had the old one for years. I just got the new one and did some serious lixel peeping and my old one was noticeablly sharper. Obviously i wanted to like and keep the new one but i couldn't justify paying for a new lens that wasn't even as good as the one that i currently own.

I'm still struggling with 28mm. Wide angle lenses mean you can easily cram more stuffs in your frame (not always good), so typically you'll stand closer, which makes the object closest to the lens looks bigger (not always good). I'm happy enough with 40 or 50mm. Or if I really want something "wide": XPan mode. Unfortunately, Hasselblad XPan is expensive, and I think the closest one to that in digital world is Fuji GFX with the 64:24 mode.

I use my D810 with battery grip, Sigma Sports 70-200 plus a Godox V1 for event photography. Heavy AF, but you get used to it. The weight also acts as an additional stabiliser. I would not really want a lighter weight camera. Just something better to do more than occasional video clips. Btw the Sigma dock plus Datacolor focus Checker take a while to get in tune, whereas the Nikon 85mm 1,8 is tack sharp from the getgo. I switched to Nikon from Canon BV and had to change quite a bit of studio great, flash triggers, lenses of course. But boy, did that make a difference
