Here's an honest review, hidden among the endless stream of "this is such a great movie!" bot posts. This is a barely mediocre film. Melanie Griffith is an unconvincing cop--she plays sex kitten roles & helpess damsel in distress roles effectively, but not a hard-bitten, cowboy cop. The cast's acting throughout isuninspiriing, often wooden, superficial, stereotypical. The plot is more of a rom-com than a crime story.

Not a Hollywood blockbuster, but couldn't help but be inspired, like with Star Trek's Data, by the nobility of the android. Ironically, he seemed to represent the potential of humankind. Good fun. Thank you!

While a lot is pretty spot on, there are a lot of inaccuracies as well. A Satmar man (Chasid from Williamsburg) would never look any woman in the eye other than his wife, mother, sisters or daughters. When the actors recite the prayers they would never say, 'adonoi' because it is using the name of the Lord not as a blessing but for for the script; they would instead say, 'Hashem' which means, 'The Name." Also, Never would a Chassidish man listen to the sound of a woman's voice when she is singing. Never. But in a lot of ways it came close. Good movie

A very good movie with beautiful people. I always feel cheated, when the film story ends and there are no credits. I wonder who that man was that sang the wedding song! Such a wonderful voice!!

What a fantastic production. I saw John Lithgow in The Front Page at Lincoln Centre in New York, and of course I've seen His Girl Friday countless times. It's quite interesting to see how much Hawks borrowed from this production. The direction and production of this film is wonderful. I loved the 360º panning camera, and the montage style. Pat O'Brien did The Front Page as a radio production as well, though I don't recall if Adolphe Menjou was in that. It was a very long time ago that I heard it. After World War II when people asked Adolphe Menjou if he was going to change his name, he said he'd had the name longer that that other fellow, and he wasn't going to change it because of him.

The film humanizes Jewish practices and exaggerated beliefs, such as their hatred of Christians and all others. This humanization is the gift that the West gives to Israel to justify its killing of poor Arabs, as the killing appears humane when it is committed by Jews, which made Western Christian public opinion accept its country’s support for the Israeli occupation... until now.. But with the Gaza war, things changed

‚Does the Rabbi understand what I’m saying’ - ‚The Rabbi speaks eight languages’ - ‚Is English one of them?’ = Condescending and backwards, like the 1980s. And investivating a disappearance: „What are those?” (touching his peyas) - „Peyas” The scene where the unmarried woman policeofficerc (Melanie Griffith) is talking to Ariel in the middle of the night is also unrealistic, not mentioning him visiting her apartment at night, this is idiocy - Hasidic men and women don’t talk at all unless they’re married.

Amazing how Mrs. Griffith manages to have time to do her hair while her pal is on the operation table. When she's in the ambulance her hair is curly and frizzy, but in the hospital ward her hair has been blow dried and styled. Well, a woman has to do what a woman has to do.
