I'm confused, why couldn't you furl the jib?
@ZiggyLavengood
@ZiggyLavengood 2 күн бұрын
the furling line comes to the end eventually. when the wind is high the sail furls up tighter taking in less sail.per revolution. the furling line only turns the drum so far leaving the leftover sail hanging out in the wind i replaced that furler drum after that with a continuous loop furler. it will spin the drum endlessly until all the sail is rolled up.

usb ports and saltwater... not a good mix.if you have a usb cord laying on deck with nothing plugged into it just a drop of salt water will turn it into a mini welder. I've had a cord burn into the plastic deck more than once.

when i was using GoPros that was easy. i have switched to DJI cameras now without the speedometer graphics. i do call it out now and then. it's a dbl edged sword though. to sailors cruising for hours at 8 mph sounds fast. to non sailors (most of my viewers) it sounds slow and boring.

@ZiggyLavengood
@ZiggyLavengood 25 күн бұрын
They flex when you get going. I've bent them a little a cpl of times too. Once being pushed up on shore by high winds and once hitting a dock post. That's how they were designed . We were on the radio with the Coast Guard for a while searching for Marcus. The fisherman didn't think of notifying anyone he was found.

Ziggy, thanks as always for taking us along for the ride! Can you explain one thing? It looks like most of the time you're out in open ocean waters. How much time are you in the ICW? Isn't the ICW only a 100' wide? Just curious, how much time you spend in the ICW for the Texas 200.
@ZiggyLavengood
@ZiggyLavengood 25 күн бұрын
I spend most my time on the ICW or the big bays. We never go out in the Gulf but stay within the barrier islands and are often 8 or 10 miles offshore. You can't see land in the bigger bays. Good question. Thanks, Zig

I am very glad to see that you are safe with only some property damage. We also went through the storm and the days without electric power. Backyard generators helped some for refrigeration, lights, fans and WiFi. As I suspected, my internet supplier has their own generators and all we had to do was supply local power to our WiFi box. Having a battery and an inverter for the WiFi really helped before I was able to start the small generator. Advance planning for a day without power for air conditioning was a mistake. One of our neighbors, with many contractors in the family, brought in a job site generator and connected it to their air conditioner circuit. They didn't even open their windows for days. With our open windows we could hear it all night.
@ZiggyLavengood
@ZiggyLavengood Ай бұрын
After the 1st 12 hours without power i fired up our generator to run our freezer, fridge, tv and 1 lamp. It was quiet enough it couldn't be heard outside our yard. I was surprised how quiet the neighborhood was compared to Harvey when the Drone of generators was constant. When i went to the cabin i chose to not run the gen i brought with me as to not burden my neighbors with the noise as we all had our windows open to sleep in the 90 dgr heat. Watching everyone come together to clear downed trees and debris was inspiring. Glad it all worked out for you too.
