Best ever WTA backhands is a hard call because there are so many good candidates, but think Venus DTL backhand and Serena's cross-court are best. Venus' DTL against Vika in Dubai in 2010 are still some of the best I've ever seen. Also realise watching this that while her forehand in neutral has never been her strongest shot, her forehand on the run is just so strong. Her wingspan helps there but the balance it takes to hit it that hard and clean on the run is also amazing.

I respect Venus Williams so much. People have no idea how difficult it is to battle with Auto immune disease. My older sister suffers from it. She was diagnosed around the age of 30, but she had been battling the symptoms since she was around 20. Doctors kept misdiagnosing her, and the symptoms got worse from her mid to late 20s. One day she's fine, but the next day she can barely get out of bed. She's doing quite well now, but it's still a big struggle at times. Fortunately for her she didn't have to contend with formidable opponents like Serena, Justine, Kim, Sharapova, Davenport and so many others. I don't know how Venus was able to win so much with this disease whilst competing in the most competitive era. One can only imagine how much she could have done. A lot of things went against her. I now understand some of her losses that didn't make sense like the 2001 Australia open semi finals against Hingis. She lost so easily. She lost in a similar fashion to Serena at the 2002 Miami semi finals.

Just wanted to highlight some very important points after seeing this video. Venus Williams had already solidified her singles career by 2011. All of her seven titles in singles and Olympic singles gold had occurred. Venus was already the Wimbledon queen. She paved the way for Serena's success at Wimbledon. In doubles, by 2011, the Williams sisters had won 19 WTA doubles titles with 4 titles being from Wimbledon alone. Venus Williams was already a legendary player in 2011. Let that sink in.

She was so ill with Sjogren's this year 😢. She looked so laboured moving out wide and it was only really her serve that was keeping her going. Thankfully, she had a lovely renaissance at Wimbledon in 2016 and 2017 😊

2011 was a hard one. It threatened the end of the Williams reign at Wimbledon as both Vee and Serena went out of the 4th round at the same time. Really sad Venus lost to Pironkova two years jn a row, never fully understood that. 2011-2013 were rough but 2014-2017 was phenomenal, only losing to the event champion or finalist. Venus is Wimbledon to me.

5:44 is an example of what she should do more of, I just finished watching the 2000 us semis against Martina Hingis , and this helped get out of the long and stretching rallies that Martina Hingis would do to her. I think she should also try swimming, it’ll help condition her body and cause her to have more endurance.

@marfu1119 Oh thanks man, I think it's the tennis 😂. Yes I totally remember that. My eyes were stuck to them like glue since July 2000 when I first saw them play then picked up a racket. Just won a 4.5 tournament this past weekend. Yes I started as a Serena Fan...., until I saw the Dichotomy Venus was in and how she would let up in a few matches and not play Serena like she's play Davenport or Hingis. I don't blame Venus, because she really loves her sister more than her own career. But let's be clear, there was nothing wrong with Serena at that tournament. She started feeling the same way she did at Wimbledon early on in the year when Venus Took the title over her. Didn't even give a proper celebration towards Venus, Even after Serena beat her for the title in 2002-03. And when she beat Venus, Venus was very congratulatory towards Serena, even at the other majors as well. Serena was already leading in Major titles at the time, I just wanted her to celebrate her sister just once in Defeat

I think one of the Miami commentators got it right when she said that Venus knows exactly what she wants to do out there but is not able to execute it the way we all know she can. The amount of easy balls w/in her strikezone that she misses nowadays is just too high for someone with limited movement. Hopefully she can become injury free and be the free-swinging Venus we all know and love!

She needs to use the dropshot more to open up the court. She can't afford these baseline rallies where she doesn't have the movement to cover the court from side-to-side as well as she used to.

I LOVE to see Venus play. I wish she would start with doubles or something to get some match play in though! Obviously her movement will never be the same, but her hitting was clean! She just needed to hit the ball deeper. I think she’s going to retire at the US OPEN tbh.
