Why are you leaving out Base Excess laboratory values? Base excess is a value of metabolic acidosis or alkalos is. It makes blood gases easier to interpret. It's like only giving a few values for other lab tests. Nursing wants to trick students instead of giving full information. Would you leave out other values on any other lab test? Somewhat ok, but not very good. Where is the uncompensated on here. Gases are compensated, partially compensated and uncompensated. Normal PaO2 is 90% to 100%, below 90 is serious . 80 is not in acceptable range.

It’s good with ABGs until I try to find out if it’s compensated or uncompensated. I get confused. Ugh. I don’t know if I will ever understand compensation.
