Hi lisa, cannot solve the issue as 1. Microsoft has blocked macros from running because the source of this file is untrusted 2. The path cannot be added into Trusted Location for security reason How could I solve this? Thank you

Try this: Check the "Allow Trusted Locations on my network (not recommended)" check box at the bottom of the Trusted Locations dialog box in the Trust Center. File|Options|Trust Center|Trust Center Settings|Trusted Locations

Can you print a report with an Attached file (jpg) with the preview of the file as appears in the table? Or is mandatory to be Bitmap OLE object?

A .jpg file in an Attachment field can/will show up on either a form or a report, but it sounds like your problem may be that you do not know how to add new fields to an existing report. Try starting with the Report Wizard, and then choosing the fields you want on that report including the Attachment field that contains your .jpg. That will create a starting report that shows the .jpg file that you can modify later as needed.

I finally fixed mine. In Print Preview - Click on Columns and for column size check the box for same as detail. Boom! Fixes this two page problem

Have used MS Access since version 1.1, right after Microsoft bought it. It was much speedier with version 2.0 as they incorporated indexing technology they acquired from another purchased company. That company had created FoxBase and FoxBase Mac and a few users later put out Microsoft FoxPro. All good databases along with Paradox, Reflex, Clarion, Alpha Four and others in the 1990s.

Great video! I have more questions. What makes this better than Excel? I can do all of these things with Excel using Power query and building a data model. How is Access intended to be used by stakeholders? Is there a stand alone app or web interface for the forms for data entry that they use? Can you automate reports by email? How does Access compare to MS SQL Server? How well does Access play with BI products like PowerBI, Tableau, etc?

Access is superior to Excel in two major ways: 1. the power and benefits of managing data in a relational database vs. a flat file and 2. it is an application development tool (queries, forms, and reports) as opposed to a spreadsheet view (see the first two KZfaqs in my "Microsoft Access A to Z playlist for explanations of both of these)

What are you trying to do? Exactly what is not working? Without more specific information, it's extremely difficult to provide a helpful response. Sometimes it is helpful to watch the KZfaq again and refer to it in your question. That way, you can say "at time x:x I cannot do y" ... you get the idea.

I think you're asking about the .laccdb file. If so, first off I have to explain that you don't want to open it or modify it in any way. It is a temporary file that takes care of itself (opening, then closing and deleting itself) when you open an Access .accdb file properly. Yes, there are times when the .laccdb file persists even after you've opened and closed an Access .accdb file properly. If that happens, so problem, just delete it. It will recreate itself when you open the .accdb Access database file again. But to directly answer your question, find the .laccdb file in Windows Explorer. Right-click, Show More Options, Properties. On the General tab, Change, and you can then find the application that you want to open the file with that specific extension. But again -- you should not ever need to do this. Please watch the KZfaq again in its entirety to have a sense of how the .laccdb file works and why you really never need to directly interact with it.

Hi Lisa, these videos are really valuable. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I am an Operations Manager at a Land Surveying firm and we need to update our equipment inventory system. To date it was a clunky excel spreadsheet that really lacked alot of functionality. I've got a rudimentary database up and running after only a couple hours of work thanks to your videos!

Respected Madam, your earlier advice on report subtotals was quite helpful to me. This time have a simple query. Suppose i have a main form field called "score", a numeric. In the subform have another similar field with a different name. Now i want to update the subform field "if" the main form field value is greater than 25 (example) which means the subform updates based on the condition of the field in the main form. I tried but not working as I'm probably giving an incorrect syntax. Shall be grateful if advised. Regards

You'll need to use the IIF function to do the "if" test. As for the syntax of how to build an expression using fields from both the main form and subform, I recommend using the Expression Builder to fill in the Control Source property for the different field in the subform. In the Expression Builder, pick through the Forms in the first pane of the dialog of the Expression Builder dialog box and double-click the main form to provide the correct synatx. It will look something like this: =IIf([Forms]![NameOfMainForm]![score]>25, true, false)

But it is showing an error message " ...cannot find the object Table2 (my form name from which the data to be brought to the other form). So I think I am making some mistake in putting the code correctly. In fact the first tabular form I have two fields (Pair No and Score, both numeric fields). In the first form in the first Row the data against Pair No is 1 and the score against 1 is 10. In the same form, in the second row Pair No is 2 and Score is 20. In the second tabular form I have a field SCR1 and SCR2. I want to update the second form SCR fields based on the score corresponding to the "Pair No' of the first form. For example, SCR 1 will be 10 (taking it from the first row of the first form corresponding to the Pair No). Regards.

I "think" your trouble is that you're trying to pull data from two different records from the main form (which I "think" you've named Table2, a confusing name for a form given the word "table" means something else in Access) into the subform. I "think" you need to work with a query to gather all of the data you want to examine at one time into a single record on the main form. Not sure, but this is the best I can do on KZfaq. If you were a paying client we'd be talking further. Good luck.

I'm stuck with sub datasheet view! for example, I've 3 separate tables. wanna relate them with one junction table. say, number 2 table has a common field ( could be described as the master field ), which is related to two other fields. one from number 1 table and another from number 3 table. after creating the relationship, when u press the " + " sign of the sub datasheet view, " insert sub datasheet " dialogue box appears! why so? I just wanna see related fields to that particular field. why that doesn't happen?

Subdatasheets show the "many" records related to "one" record in the table you are viewing in Table Datasheet View. So only the table on the "one" side of the relationship will have the ability to show a subdatasheet.

If you're getting the "Insert Subdatasheet" dialog box it means that you're viewing a table on the "one" side of a "one-to-many" relationship to more than one other table...so you have to choose which table's records to view in the subdatasheet.

Thank you! I haven't watched this yet, but yes, you can bypass startup options by holding the SHIFT key down while the database is opening (by default). And you can also reassign the bypass key to something else such as F1 (or whatever) with VBA. But if you do that, it's obviously critical to keep track of that change!
